Visitors coming in from Kuala Lumpur must first take a flight Kota Kinabalu. The flight will take approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes. Airlines such as AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Royal Brunei Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Royal China Airlines all offer direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu. Getting into the city from the airport is fairly easy using the airport buses. The buses leave the Airport roughly at every full hour, starting at 8:00 am while the last bus will leave the airport at 8:30 pm. The ticket price is RM5 for adults and RM3 for children. Taxis are also readily available at the airport with the standard rate to the city being RM30. Ride-hailing app, Grab, is also available to take you into the city. The journey from the airport to the apartment will take approximately 15 minutes by car.
For those with extra budget, you can charter a car or a minivan. Car rentals can easily be found at the airport itself, but car rentals in Kota Kinabalu offer far more competitive prices. There are various types of cars on offer so that visitors can choose according to their budget. A standard sedan such as the Proton Saga FLX will cost around RM140-150 per day. A private car is the best way to get around Kota Kinabalu and the areas surrounding it.
