What the pictures don’t show you is that the outdoor „chill area“ is DIRECTLY at a main street with cars driving by fast and all the time. It’s super noisy and not relaxing at all. One of the staff didn‘t even bother to say hello when I entered and it made me feel not welcome right from the start. I regret my booking and tried to cancel but of course they won‘t let me. I even offered to pay for one night or a small fee as my booking blocked 1 bed for 2 hours. The manager present is not the owner and strictly follows a policy that a real owner would never do. It’s a commercialized, soulless, overrated and overpriced place. keep looking and you‘ll find something better for sure. If you don‘t care about the noise, maybe the hostel is for you. Otherwise: Stay away. Update (same day): Even though they didn’t let me cancel and I had to pay full four nights without even checking in, I still decided to book another hostel around the corner where I found a peaceful garden, super friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. I was very happy with my choice and even though paying twice, I did not regret this decision. Another update 5 months later: Just got an email, that this review has been viewed 5000 times. Glad to see this review is getting a lot of attention. What I didn't even mention: I initially only wanted to book one night to check out if I like the place, but the same manager that refused to let me cancel shortly after was the one that talked me into booking 4 nights directly. The whole experience was awful and I felt so disrespected. So it feels good to see, that treating your customers bad on the long term does not pay off.

We had a private room and the sink in the bathroom was tiny. The room itself was okay nothing outstanding but it was very loud in the evening since all the people came home. We had a room where everyone had to pass through to get to their rooms so again a lot of noise. The staff was very friendly.

The room was right beside the main road and very noisy if there was a window open. I opted for the 6 bed dorm for extra money and it was disgusting. The beds were extremely noisy however one plus is that the mattresses were fairly comfortable. However the worst thing about this room was the large amount of black mould covering the entire bathroom, spotted on walls and ceilings, all over the shower area, and throughout the sink area. This was dangerous and the smell was awful. Tried to mitigate things and keep the door to the bathroom ensuite closed at all times, but the smell still radiated through the bedroom. A fairly small hostel for the capacity of it, and really only one very small common area besides the restaurant. Not many places to work on your laptop which were free throughout the hostel and with a table to rest the computer or if you use a keyboard/mouse. Option to use the restaurant area, however 10 euros must be paid or 10 euros in food purchases. Staff were mostly friendly, common areas were dirty and the furniture badly needed to be updated and washed. Breakfast was fairly expensive for what you received and I would recommend opting out if you so choose to stay here. Location was central and easy to walk to places but not by any means the nicer part of town and as mentioned before, beside a busy road. I have stayed at several Selina's in South/Central America and was always impressed with the quality as they stand out amongst most other hostels there. Unfortunately this was not the case in Ericeira. Overall, the hostel feels very cramped and poorly designed. The main kitchen area is TINY considering how many people congregate there. In my 4-bed dorm, I could barely even open my suitcase on the floor because there was no space. The beds creaked very loud if you move at night. The lockers in the rooms also don't have the ability to put a lock on them (why even have them?). Most of the rooms upstairs are next to the kitchen, so if anyone is making noise you will instantly hear it. Overall it was not a comfortable stay like other experiences I've had with Selina, mostly due to the cramped layout of the hostel. Some positives however: The bar/restaurant area is nice and the rooftop sunset views are amazing, plus the free yoga class is a nice touch. The people staying there were friendly and most everyone is there to surf/relax so it's a great vibe, but if you're looking for something comfortable and good value, I would look elsewhere.
