Lovely 2 night stay at the Lion Hotel, regularly visit Shrewsbury and thought of staying here for a change , we were pleasantly surprised, after reading some of the reviews, so please do not discard this hotel because of some negative reviews, you need to stay here to find out for yourself. Easy check in , staff very helpful and always ready to greet you with a smile and hello. Room lovely and clean and nice and warm, as we're all the areas of the hotel. Breakfast was really good, plenty of it, and the lady at breakfast was so lovely, always smiling and nothing was too.much for her, thankyou. Will deffinately recommend the Lion hotel to friends and family, and we will be back. Also £5 per night to park your car there, which is really good value, and very convenient for shops and bars.

Had some banging on my hotel room door from about 3.30am to 5.30am and pushing very inappropriate notes under the door. When I spoke to person on reception I was given a note pad with numbers on. This was produced from behind the desk. The note pad was the same as note at my door. I’m waiting for a call from hotel manager.

Central hotel with parking. Very friendly and attentive staff with a nice cooked breakfast. The hotel has a great history and yes its old, but comfortable and would not be half as interesting if modified. We would definitely return.

Lovely large room and very clean. Yes it’s dated but that reflected in the price. Breakfast was lovely. I was woken by the glass recycling truck at 4.30 and was weary that you had to go down the side to get in after 11pm and I was a solo traveller.

Great stay hotel location is ideal for easy access to the town. The hotel is a tired and in need of a refurb but the rooms are clean and have all the facilities required for a comfortable stay. Will definitely stay again.

The hotel is an old historic coaching inn in a prime location of Shrewsbury town. It is an inn I have known my whole life and finally got to stay in. It’s a fabulous location, parking in car park 2 could be improved. The hotel could go with an upgrade in some elements, expected due to its age. It is hugely disappointing that the history of the hotel, the guests is big made more of (Charles Dickens, Jenny Lind). The bar was closed due to a licensing issue which we were not aware of. There was a lack of Christmas spirit or ambience another element easily improved. The reception staff were barely communicative, as were the breakfast staff. I don’t understand why the communication skills are not a part of the job/role, after a long journey a welcome would have been nice, an explanation of the car park system or just any communication would have been professional and expected for such a hotel in such a location. Sad that we had that experience. The food was good, the room delightful, clean comfortable warm. So much potential!

The room was very cold and the bathroom was even colder as there was no heating in the room. The beds were too low (I have rheumatoid arthritis so struggle to get up from low seats or beds) and the mattress was too soft. The TV was tiny and there was a very limited supply of tea/milk. However, the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was very good.

All staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel was excellnt value for money, however the room and most of the areas in the hotel are 'tired' and in need of an upgrade.

Limited car parking but very convenient if you find a space ,hotel was clean, tidy and very convenient access to the shopping streets, dont think there is a bar or restaurant but the breakfast was very good and plentiful, the dining room was quite modern and nicely decorated staff are very pleasant and accomodating loads of eating and drinking places within very easy walking distance. As with all old hotels the building was a little tired and showing signs of age,the bedroom was spacous and warm and had all necessary equipment our room was overlooking the shopping streets, there was some traffic noise up till midnigh but thats to be xpected in the town centre..would stay again
