Dog friendly a plus. Accommodation tired although the bathroom had recently been refurbished to a good standard. It's an old period building not to everyones taste, however grounds look lovely. Mixed emotions. Television had limited channels, no sound on BBC1 for some strange reason. Room doors have strong springs and bangs can be heard up and down the corridor through out the night. Reception staff although polite and effective didn't give me that feel good factor. Spa reception staff young and lacking any genuine enthusiasm. Food menu uninspiring and over priced. Swimming pool, two gyms, a sauna and steam room coupled with where I needed to get to the following day, were the main reasons for my booking. At the right price good value, had I paid the original price quoted by booking several weeks in advance I would have been upset, as I ended up paying almost half that nearer to my required date.

Aircon was not working in the room which caused discomfort. I received a call around 8pm before we checked in to say we had to move to the sister hotel due to an issue with our room, which caused unnecessary stress and would have separated us from the rest of our party. The hotel phoned back 5 minutes later to say they made a ‘mistake’. I am now wondering if the aircon issue was the reason for wanting to move us in the first place.

The bed was so uncomfortable both my self and my son have had to see the doctor with our backs . My son’s shower wouldn’t go past warm because the valve was set up wrong . The sofas in the rooms were so old you couldn’t sit on them or you will fall into them . When functions were on people huddled around the front door smoking and blew smoke in your face when you walked in . I booked 3 rooms and all of them were just as bad . I spoke to the receptionist about this and she told me people like the soft beds they say they are like sleeping on a cloud and they can’t please everyone. I also mentioned that there were no bathrobes in the room so didn’t make use of the spa . She said they have never put bathrobes in the room and it was down to the 3rd party putting the wrong details . I said it’s a spa hotel ? Wouldn’t you put bathrobes in a room? It’s such a shame because it’s a lovely looking hotel . One night would have probably been ok but 1 week was too much .

Our 1 night stay was good. Reception very friendly and helpful. This is a decent place to stay, ok, a little tired here and there but, comfortable and does its job very well. The drinks and food expensive (didn’t try) as we think this large hotel is used by business customers, probably on expense accounts. Set in large grounds away from town youll need to drive if you wish to eat elsewhere.

Great property but for a high class hotel, things were broken, wardrobe, windows. The room was too warm woth no information/instructions on how to remedy. Also, no lift.

Paid for Superior and the bed was so soft it was like the mattress was eating you, pillows very soft. Prawn cocktail was £12 with only a few prawn and mainly lettuce, £6 for a few chips and when I asked for some buttered bread, didn’t realise I was being charged £5 for a tiny, hard roll that would be an amazing door stopper. Not much air in the room so far hot. Partner said the pool was good.

Room was nice enough except the shower was broken so i couldn't get any hot water out of it. Bath looked large and managed to get hot water but awkward shape and couldn't get comfy in it. Then my only treatment was cancelled due to staff sickness. I would've driven the 3 and a half hours for no treatment at all if it hadn't been for my 2 friends offering to half both their treatment times so the spa could at least give me a treatment. The spa staff very kindly gave me some samples as an apology which was nice. But then we ordered coffee at the bar and waited over 45 minutes with several reminders that we were still waiting. I had to cancel and request a refund. The member of staff behind the bar was rude and emotional saying its a horrible place to work and they get so many complaints and then she ran off crying to gave a cigarette break instead of refunding the coffees my friends were waiting for. One of my friends is vegan and there were only 2 things on the menu she could eat so we went elsewhere to eat on our 2nd night. The service in the restaurant the first night was also VERY slow. Was very upset by the experience we had considering the cost of everything. Would not come back here again.

Great hotel with a welcoming feel, very comfy beds and the spa, pool and gym are excellent. My only problem was finding somewhere to park but there was a wedding and if you have limited mobility not brilliant as an old building. Very friendly staff.

The room was very tired and cramped, even though I had upgraded from a basic room. The glassware was dirty and there wasn’t enough towels provided for 3 guests. We also used the pool facilities during our stay. The spa was ok but the pool water was very cold.
