We stayed at the Wyndham in Stralsund in August of this year. We booked three rooms for 3 nights and really wanted to like this place, especially since it was one of the few wheelchair accessible places we could find about a month before at the height of summer travel.
The hotel was easy to reach by car. Rooms were clean and spacious, even with an additional bed in use, but as others already mentioned in need of an update. The furniture was dated and showed signs of wear. At the time we visited the staircase was blocked off for repairs/renovations.
For the wheelchair bound person in our group it was easy to get around, ramp by the front entrance, hallways were nice and wide, plenty of space in their room, which had no carpet for easy maneuvering. The room had a special grab bar to access the WC and a wheelchair accessible shower. This aspect was top!
Unfortunately, this is where the good part ends. While the staff was friendly, they were not always the most helpful and certainly understaffed.
Before booking we had tried to find out about the extent of their wheelchair accessibility. Many places say wheelchair friendly, which means nothing, if you are relying on certain amenities. Only after repeated calling did we get someone to answer the phone.
During our time - summer with no AC in the rooms - we intended to sleep with the windows open to get some fresh air. A bad idea, as the Shopping Center across the way was remodeling and kept filling dumpsters with concrete starting at 11pm every night.
Trying to call the front desk produced no answer and the next day we were told there was nothing they could do. After a bit more discussion we were given the number for the office of the city that deals with noise complaints. That was a dead end as well. Repeated phone calls were not answered.
The next night we went downstairs to complain about the noise again and the night staff alerted the police, which brought temporary relief. The dumping started again about an hour later.
Talking to the night staff we learned that this had been going on for months! Maybe it wasn't noticeable in the rooms out back, but the front rooms (and reception area) certainly could not ignore it. Even with the windows CLOSED.
We did not use the pool as that was an extra charge. We also did not take advantage of the breakfast, as that would have been an additional €87 per day for the six of us, as we were informed at check-in. The one thing we were not prepared for (no one told us, there were no signs in the parking lot) was the additional charge for the "premium" parking we had in front of the hotel to the tune of €63. Apparently only the parking way in the back behind the swimming center was free of charge. Luckily, since we had just had another discussion about the excessive noise the night before they let it go.
All in all, while we had a good time and were happy to have found a place that suited our needs on relatively short notice, we are not sure we would stay here again.
