Good but with some drawbacks. The rooms were pretty big and the decorations and interior was nice. The staff was friendly and the guests very pleasant company.
What makes this review three stars though is mostly the cleanliness and some questionable routines of the hostel that future guests should be made aware of.
None of the bathrooms were especially clean, all of them had broken toilet seats, some no toilet seat whatsoever, and there was always a lingering smell. The showers were nice, however, and floors and sinks alright, though some taps could use some scrubbing due to built up mold. Some days we got back and the entire floor smelled like poop, which wasn’t very pleasant but was temporary.
As for the routines, every night and every morning one of the staff comes into your room to turn off the ac, they control the temperature and every setting. This would’ve been fine if it weren’t for the fact that they were not very patient before entering the room. Sure they knocked, but never waited for a ok to enter. This is especially bad when I lived in the women’s dorm and we therefore didn’t feel comfortable to change in there because of the unexpected entrees by male employees. I can also imagine it being an issue for people who cover their hair for religious reasons, a man entering without much of a warning could cause distress.
When we entered the hostel and checked the kitchen it was very untidy and the fridge was completely stuffed of mouldy fruits and old food, the smell of it horrendous. We didn’t want to store our food in there because of this and ended up storing everything in our locker. This was sorted with, somewhat, a couple days later but never to a degree I’d be comfortable storing my food in.
Again, the staff were helpful and nice, the guests wonderful and interior very pretty, and location close to the train station as well as the city makes it wonderful. A couple touchups here and there and better cleaning could really benefit this hostel!
