Tucked away in a remote location on the other side of Lamu from the main tourist spots, Kizingo is the perfect place to unwind. The location is superb, nestled in the dunes at the back of a deserted beach which stretches for miles. The rooms - self-contained wooden houses on stilts each with a well equipped (solid floor) bathroom attached - are brilliantly designed, comfortable and far enough apart to ensure complete privacy. Service is attentive and friendly. It was very hot when I was there so I asked for a fan which I got immediately. In keeping with the environmentally friendly ethos, it was solar powered. Everything is designed to be low impact: the power is solar, there is no bottled water because the water in the taps is clean and drinkable, the toiletries are organic and you get a bamboo toothbrush to reflect the lodge's commitment to do away with plastic. You are far away from restaurants so it's full board with a set menu which could be a problem except that the food is superb, mostly vegetarian with some fish and all very healthy and tasty. I could happily have just spent my days nature watching from the swing seat in my room, walking on the beach, swimming in the warm, clear Indian Ocean and eating (not to mention the drinking; they do a mean cocktail in the bar/restaurant). But there was too much else to do like snorkelling around a remote island; kayaking through the mangroves; a motorbike safari to Lake Kenyatta and a sunset dhow trip. I'll definitely be back.

Kizingo is a secret hideaway for everyone looking for a peaceful retreat in the middle of nature. Within the tides you decide what you are up to: Snorkelling in the Indian Ocean, canoeing in the mangrove channels, getting comfy for your private little movie night. In the meantime there is lots of opportunity to just hang out, sleep and relax. We stayed at Kizingo in March 2022 for a week and loved the vibe. Wonderful staff, super chilled atmosphere and everything is just done so thoughtful with much love for details. Also I want to mention the amazing food and such a great change from these buffets you get in most resorts in Kenya. Highly recommendable for vegans as well! I hope we will be back soon!

Had a fabulous 6 nights stay there. Loved the big airy bedrooms with nice breezes through it, loved the delicious vegetarian/vegan food menu, the great staff always ready with cold drinks and the amazing beach. Had a beautiful afternoon kayak through the mangrove, and had a great walk the length of the beach to the other side of the island. Really special place and definitely going back there again ASAP!

Kizingo is amazing. The food and drinks are exceptional - fresh, healthy and delicious. The service was lovely, but more than anything the location is just perfect. The rooms are so beautifully and thoughtfully designed with lovely little touches that make it a perfect getaway. Thank you so much to Nicola and her team

Amazing! Nicola and team have created a very special spot. Going to bed to the sound of Lamu's breeze, stargazing and water bioluminesence, a motorbike safari that's not in a safari park, incredibly fresh food...all this makes Kizingo the the perfect place to unwind and recharge. If this is the spot for you, it's a paradise.
