I love the cleanliness of the room. It's spacious and comfortable. The pillows are so soft and were generously provided. There was a small refrigerator and kettle which made our stay even more comfortable. There were a lot of shelves to put our things by. Location is great. Near Robinson's mall and a lot more restaurants and convenience stores. The staff were very polite and friendly. Food was superb. I love Vieve Hotel ❤️

Your Travel Guide to Manila as a Filipino Traveler

How to Get to Manila from Manila and Major Philippine Cities

For convenient booking, book flight tickets through Traveloka and compare fares across major airlines.

For travelers within the Philippines, reaching Manila is convenient through various modes of transport. Flights are the quickest option, with numerous daily departures from major cities like Cebu, Davao, and Boracay. Fares can range from PHP 2,000 to PHP 6,000 for a round trip, depending on the season and how far in advance you book. Travel time is typically between 1 to 2 hours. You can easily book your flight to Manila on Traveloka.

Bus travel is a more economical choice for those coming from Luzon's surrounding provinces. Companies like Victory Liner and Genesis Transport offer comfortable bus services to Manila's various terminals. Fares generally range from PHP 500 to PHP 1,500, with travel times varying from 4 to 10 hours depending on the origin city. This option is ideal for those who prefer a scenic journey and wish to save on travel expenses.

Driving to Manila is also feasible for those with their own vehicles, particularly from nearby provinces. Major expressways like the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) connect to the city. Be prepared for toll fees, which can add up, and navigate through the city's traffic, which can be challenging. Planning your route and understanding the toll costs beforehand is advisable.

Best Time to Visit Manila

The ideal time to visit Manila for most Filipino travelers is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to April. During these months, the weather is generally sunny with lower humidity, making it more pleasant for outdoor activities and exploring the city's attractions. Temperatures usually range from 24°C to 32°C, offering comfortable conditions for sightseeing.

The period from December to February is often considered the peak tourist season due to the cooler temperatures and festive holiday atmosphere. While the weather is excellent, expect larger crowds at popular spots and potentially higher accommodation prices. If you prefer fewer crowds and slightly warmer weather, the shoulder months of November and March to April can offer a good balance.

The wet season, from May to October, brings frequent rain showers and occasional typhoons. While this period can offer lower prices and fewer tourists, it also means that outdoor plans might be disrupted. If you don't mind the possibility of rain and are looking for the most budget-friendly options, visiting during the wet season can still be a rewarding experience, provided you have flexible plans.

Food and Dining Near Manila — What Filipino Travelers Must Try

Manila is a culinary playground, and no trip is complete without indulging in its iconic dishes. Adobo, a national dish, is a must-try, featuring meat (usually chicken or pork) braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and peppercorns. Its savory and tangy profile is a true representation of Filipino flavors. You can find excellent adobo in traditional carinderias and even in more upscale restaurants across the city.

Another essential dish is Sinigang, a sour and savory soup, typically made with tamarind broth and a choice of meat or seafood, along with various vegetables. The comforting warmth and distinct sourness of Sinigang are perfect for any weather. Many local eateries serve this hearty soup, offering a taste of home for many Filipinos.

For those seeking a richer flavor, Kare-Kare is a popular choice. This oxtail and vegetable stew is simmered in a thick, savory peanut sauce, often served with bagoong (shrimp paste) on the side. The unique combination of tender meat and the rich, nutty sauce makes Kare-Kare a beloved dish. It's a dish that showcases the depth and complexity of Filipino cuisine.

Don't leave Manila without trying Lechon, a whole roasted pig known for its incredibly crispy skin and succulent meat. While often a centerpiece for celebrations, you can find delicious Lechon portions in specialized restaurants and markets. The smoky aroma and the satisfying crunch of the skin are an experience in themselves.

Local Culture, Safety Tips, and Essential Apps for Manila

Filipino culture is known for its warmth and hospitality. When interacting with locals, a polite greeting like "Magandang araw" (Good day) or "Salamat" (Thank you) goes a long way. Respect for elders is paramount, so addressing them with "po" and "opo" (particles indicating respect) is customary. Be mindful of personal space in crowded areas and always ask permission before taking photos of people.

When it comes to safety, Manila is generally safe for tourists, but it's wise to exercise caution, especially in crowded public places. Be aware of your surroundings, keep your valuables secure, and avoid displaying expensive items. It's advisable to use reputable transportation services like taxis hailed from official stands or ride-sharing apps. In case of emergencies, the national emergency hotline is 911.

For navigating the city and staying informed, several apps are highly recommended. Grab is essential for transportation and food delivery, making it easy to get around and find meals. Google Maps is invaluable for navigation, providing real-time traffic updates and directions. For communication, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are widely used by locals to stay connected.

Me and my wife decided to check out on the same day we checked in as we were so disappointed. First of all, there was no bath towel provided or ready in our room that we had to call the receptionist to request for it. Secondly, the toilet bowl was blocked. And thirdly the last, we’ve seen a lot of baby cockcroaches running around the floor and in the toilet sink! We complaint about it and we were offered another room. But before we move to another room, we decided to check it first and to our dismay, worst than the first one. As we opened the door, big cockcroaches approached us. We wouldn’t recommend this one.

Please remove this hotel from Expedia. The toilets where clogged everyday. Had to call maintenance every day. Everything was an extra charge. They did not clean rooms completely. Airconditioning was not able to cool room effectively. WiFi service was unreliable. Both in room and main lobby. The only thing that worked well was the super tiny tv. I was super disappointed. Even free breakfast included was sub standard. Just to get print outs of documents like flight schedule was 20php per page.

This was in the middle of an Ermita, Manila ghetto. Once you check in if uou must stay in the hotel. Children and families sleeping in the rain 30 feet from the entrance. Beggars everywhere. Young teenage Muslim mothers holding babies on the streets edge asking for pesos. Men urinating on nearby buildings with no regard. The staff were pleasant but the facility was worn and tired looking. I was there from 8pm until 630am. So I toughed it out. BAD CALL! If at all possible avoid this area. Usually I stay at the Marriot by the airport or Herirage Hotel near Mall of Asia but both were full. I have also stayed in a budget hotel fairly close to the airport and Mall of Asia called Aseana City Red Planet which I was new, well maintained but very small rooms. I would have much prefered that property. Also the Golden Phonix Hotel was another hotel I liked in Aseana City but everything was booked that night. In hindsight I would have rather been awake at the airport for the 10 hours instead of being at Vieve Hotel again. There should be a disclaimer mentioning the filth, poverty and the area surrounding the facility.

Water falling from the drain of the air conditioner upper floor was hit some. The sounds resonated in the room all night long. Two cockroaches were playing in the room. That’s because hot country.

It’s old and filthy. The picture they have on the website is totally different from the actual. Staff are so unfriendly.

Hotel was good , we only had a problem with the room we reserved not smoking and they give us a smoking room :( the local area is not the best but that was our own fault do not do our job in researching before reserving. For the rest it was good.
