A lovely grand hotel set on the cliffs above San Sebastian. It is an old building with wide corridors and the occasional creaky floorboards - it has a nice character. We stayed two nights in a standard room that was large and had a very comfy bed. We ate there for the first night and found the food to be too fancy for us. I had fish with purée potatoes and a spoonful of veg at €24. Breakfast was nice, although on the Sunday morning there were not enough staff to keep up with guests. Hospitality is hard work and despite the long hours staff appeared to be working, they were all helpful and friendly. The hotel has a very nice pool with great views over the sea. There are also great gardens with plenty of places to relax. Inside the hotel there are also plenty of places to sit and relax. This is a nice hotel, but it is expensive.

We first visited two years ago and our memories of a fantastic stay led us to return. At that time the staff were concerned that a new hotel, opening nearby, might encourage the Paradore’s staff to leave and work there. This maybe the case, as the serving staff, FANTASTIC people, were rushed off their feet at breakfast and dinner trying to serve so many guests. The quality of the food is now disappointing. Many folk have posted reviews like this for months now and the hotel acknowledges in a placatory manner. I have no need for a response in writing. What I hope happens, is that the management addresses the staffing issue, if they can, and that the Paradore returns to its former glory. Everything else about the hotel remains as it was: cleanliness, ambiance, helpful members of staff in all departments.

Excellent location with nice accomodation. Unfortunately service at both breakfast and dinner is a disaster! At breakfast, restaurant is understaffed with as a result bad service, poor replenishment of buffet, etc. Went back for dinner with similar result: if your seating is out of view of staff, you will not get noticed! Waited half an hour with empty dishes, but finally left without desert while staff was cleaning other tables and probably was preparing for next breakfast. What a bad experience!

Superb staff, food and view. The buildings are fascinating, like a museum. Only minus was a bad smell now and then, and the creakiest room floor we’ve ever experienced.

Service great but slow service at dinner and queuing for the coffee machine at breakfast. Good food though and would stay again.
