Great: 1) The view at the last floor (panorama restaurant) with its view over Stone Town and the sea. It is called Horizon Hotel for a reason. 2) The kindness of the staff. All very kind. 3) The colonial-time furniture in the room and the public area like the staircase. Lots of wood from back in the days. I hope the hotel will never change it, it truly is a charm. Go there if you like history, skip if you seek modern comfort. Less good: There sadly is no elevator... If you are 4th floor, you walk 4 floors maybe multiple times a day. By the way, the restaurant is on 6th floor (also for breakfast) so... people with heart issues, mind this! Another negative point was the leaking and unstable bath tub in my room for taking a shower... Hold tight, don't fall! The breakfast was a bit like "You get what we have at the moment, not what the menu sheet has to offer"... So if you're picky, you might not eat much. Hakuna Matata as they'd say here. Good value, amazing view, i recommend and would go again. The ideal customers are... People with no exercise issues, others might struggle with stairs, kids with the partially antique furniture which I loved a lot. Go if you like history, skip if you want a modern place.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, the rooms were big but it was really unsanitary. The sheets were dirty with hair on it, so we requested that they change it, but they just put another cover on top of it and left, we were shocked. The bathroom was also disgusting, I don’t think they ever cleaned it actually. The bath had brown stains, the mirror is stained. One day everyone in our group (we traveled with agency) was left without water so noone could take shower, and then when they finally fixed the problem, the water was brown. The breakfast was okay but mostly they had just sweet stuff, no bread with salami, cheese or anything like that. The price is too high for this place!

STAY AWAY of this disgusting hotel. Dirty, noisy, no WiFi and rude staff. I have been to many relevant hotels all over the world but this was the worst in my life. He were obliged to leave earlier and to seek for another hotel in the middle of the summer. I would definitely avoid this hotel for my Zanzibar stay.

This hotel is good but could be great if service was improved. The rooms were large, the bed comfortable and bathroom adequate (could do with some renovation). However little things like the lack of compendium or even basic phone numbers to contact reception were missing. No maps or tourist information but a tour desk selling tours which were $20 less expensive 100 metres down the road near Jaws Corner. Otherwise the stay of four days was fine in an historic building. No lift but that was no issue and staff carried bags up and down
