Had an amazing experience at Zoo Negara with my family! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making our visit even more enjoyable. The environment and washrooms were well-maintained, clean, and tidy, which we really appreciated. The only downside was that the drinking water from vending machines was quite pricey at RM4. Overall, a great visit!

The zoo here doesn't have as many trees as the Thao Cam Vien, but everything is ok, the best thing is being able to see the two pandas, so cute.

not good. couldn't see the panda. the panda was closed for almost 5 hours while we were there. even though the electricity was back a few hours later, they still hadn't opened the panda. the goal was to go to the national zoo to see the panda, but we couldn't. also disappointed with the national zoo delaying the time we could see the panda😡

About Zoo Negara

Zoo Negara, Malaysia's largest zoo at 110 hectares, is a fantastic destination for those who want to observe some of Malaysia's most amazing animals up close. This wildlife sanctuary is home to over 5,000 animals, ranging from adorable pandas to majestic birds. When you visit, you can stroll through the lush gardens, watch cranes and pelicans fly overhead, and enjoy the captivating world of animals. This place is a must-visit for nature lovers of all ages!

One of the biggest attractions of Zoo Negara is the Giant Panda Conservation Centre. Meet Xing Xing and Liang Liang, a pair of adorable pandas living in a spacious air-conditioned enclosure. Watch them play, climb and even eat bamboo - it's an unforgettable experience. Plus, you'll learn about the importance of panda conservation and what is being done to protect these amazing creatures.

Zoo Negara Opening Hours

The zoo is open daily from 9am to 5pm. When visiting, don't miss the Giant Panda Conservation Centre, but remember to arrive before 4.30pm on weekdays or 5.30pm on weekends.

If you want to see amazing animal shows, you can catch the various animal shows at 11am and 3pm from Saturday to Thursday. On Fridays, the show starts a little later at 3.30pm.

If you want to take the kids on an adventure, try taking them to feed some of the animals! Feeding sessions at Children's World are available on weekends and public holidays from 12.00pm to 1.00pm. If you love deer, come to the Javanese Deer feeding session from 2pm to 3pm.

What is Special about Zoo Negara?

Zoo Negara is home to a diverse collection of animals, with over 5,000 specimens representing nearly 500 species. The zoo is divided into various zones, each of which features different types of animals, ranging from mammals and birds to reptiles, amphibians and fish. To maximise your visit, be sure to check out these recommended exhibits.

1. Ape Centre

The Ape Centre, located at the top of the Zoo Negara, is a much-loved attraction. It is home to a group of chimpanzees and two types of orangutans, the Bornean and Sumatran. The spacious, open-plan enclosures allow the apes to move freely. Watch them interact playfully, greeting each other with kisses and handshakes, bickering and teasing each other amidst the lush trees.

2. Hornbill Centre

The Hornbill Centre, established in 2010, is a sanctuary for seven of Malaysia's ten hornbill species. The centre is dedicated to breeding four specific hornbill species and is a popular destination for bird lovers. You can find it near Entrance A by the lake, as shown on the Malaysia Zoo Negara map.

3. Cat Walk Exhibit

The Cat Walk Exhibit, a short walk from the Hornbill Centre, is a must-see. This stunning show features tigers, African lions and cheetahs roaming around in enclosures that mimic their natural habitat. Watch in awe as these majestic creatures cool off by swimming or basking in the sun.

4. Bear Complex

The Zoo Negara is home to three of the world's eight bear species: Asian Black Bear, Brown Bear and Sun Bear. A favourite here is the Malayan Sun Bear, the smallest of all bears. These adorable creatures are also called Honey Bears because they love honey, and Dog Bears because of their size. They have a unique way of walking, with their feet facing inwards, and have cute little canines poking out between their lips.

5. Children's World

If you're visiting with children, don't miss the Children's World section. Here, children can play freely amongst friendly animals such as goats, deer, turtles, rabbits and miniature horses. They can also explore mini caves and see interesting historical objects. Tip: If you are visiting on a weekend or holiday, try to come between 12.00-13.00 to see the animals being fed.

6. Malaysian Elephants

Zoo Negara is a great place to see some amazing animals. Among them are three Malaysian elephants named Teriang, Siti, and Sibol. These elephants are from Pahang and are very popular with visitors. You can visit their exhibits and even feed them sugar cane or bananas.

7. Savannah Walk

The Savannah Walk is one of the largest and most beloved areas of the zoo. This open-air exhibition area is home to a variety of African animals, including giraffes, zebras, ostriches, sable antelopes, white rhinos and many more. If you're an animal lover, make sure you bring your camera to capture unforgettable moments with these majestic creatures.

When is the best time to visit Zoo Negara?

The best time to visit Zoo Negara is in the cooler months, from November to February. The weather is less humid and more comfortable, making it easier to enjoy your day at the zoo without getting too sweaty. However, the zoo is open all year round, so you can still enjoy your visit in the other months, you just have to be prepared for the hot and humid weather.
