Locally known as Padang Kota Lama, the Esplanade was a waterfront area where Captain Francis Light, the founder of George Town, first landed in 1786. Now, the Esplanade is an exceptional venue to host various celebrations and cultural performances, such as the anniversary of George Town’s inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Odori Japan festival, and Chap Goh Meh.
