Prambanan, known locally as the Roro Jonggrang temple, is a Hindu temple complex dating from the 9th century. The UNESCO World Heritage Site consists of more than 240 temples — three of which are dedicated to the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Javanese ballet performances of the Ramayana story, which is also carved on the walls of the temple, are performed occasionally at an open-air theater on the west side of Prambanan.
