Penang is one of the places you have to visit when you’re in Malaysia as the place is rich with history and record-breaking feats. Don’t know where to start? Check out the seven Penang attractions below you definitely don’t want to miss out on.

The Habitat Penang Hill

Your trip to Penang won’t be official if you don’t visit this spot. Located less than 10km from George Town, Penang Hill is actually a collection of peaks that include Strawberry Hill and Flagstaff Hill. A popular tourist attraction in the area is The Habitat Penang Hill, deemed as the most authentic educational rainforest experience in Malaysia. It has a 1.6km nature trail, the Langur Way Canopy Walk, Curtis Crest Treetop Walk with 360-degree views, and Flight of the Colugo zip line course.

Penang Street Art

Penang is becoming more synonymous with street art. It all began in 2012 when artist Ernest Zacharevic created six murals in conjunction with the George Town Festival. Now, there are lots of unique and meticulously-painted murals scattered across the city. Some of the most popular murals include Children on a Bicycle, Boy on Motorbike, and Reaching Up. Next time you’re in town, make it a mission to see how many murals you can spot!

Kek Lok Si Temple

For those looking for a site ample with history, Kek Lo Si Temple (Temple of Supreme Bliss) is a place that you’ve got to include on your list. This Buddhist temple is considered as the biggest in Malaysia, covering about 12 hectares of land. On the temple grounds, you can find a bronze statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin, that stands at 36.57 meters tall. However, the main attraction of this temple is the Rama VI Pagoda that combines Burmese, Chinese, and Thai architecture.

On the beaches, there are tons of activities for you to partake in from parasailing to island hopping. It has been said that you can see the Andaman Sea and Mount Jerai of Kedah on a clear day. Don’t miss out on other exciting activities organized by resorts like the Hard Rock Hotel to get your beach party going.

Penang Ghost Museum

Adrenaline junkies visiting Penang can go for a unique experience at the Penang Ghost Museum. The museum is located in Lebuh Melayu, specifically in the George Town UNESCO Historic Site. As the first museum of its kind in the country, the Ghost Museum offers fun (and spooky!) scenes featuring local urban legends like Pontianak, Pocong, Toyol, Orang Minyak, and more.
