The easing of rules continues to develop in many parts of the world, including tourists arriving in Australia! They will no longer have to include their COVID-19 vaccine status or obtain a travel exemption based on changes that took effect from 6 July 2022.

Quoted from The Guardian, Australia's Home Affairs Minister, Clare O'Neil, announced on July 3, 2022, that the Australian government would remove restrictions that have been in place since the country's borders reopened late last year. With changes to the Biosafety Act made following the advice of the chief medical officer, Paul Kelly. The changes will take effect on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

In addition, Clare O'Neil also believes that the more people are traveling overseas and the more confident local governments will be in managing COVID risks, this is making Australian airports even busier. Removing this requirement will not only reduce airport delays but will also encourage more visitors and skilled workers to choose Australia as a travel destination.

However, this easing is certainly supported by a number of conditions for entry into this country. Singapore has officially announced the launch of Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with several countries. The app can be used for travel via the VTL route and fully vaccinated travelers from countries like Australia can visit Singapore without being quarantined again.

Furthermore, Australia also no longer requires inbound travelers to vaccinate or undergo pre-departure tests, so traveling to the country is almost as easy as in the past!

This way, of course, tourists will pack up and come to Australia for a vacation and enjoy the beautiful scenery there. You can browse Melbourne's famous cafes, walk along the white sands of Cable Beach and enjoy the expanse of the Indian Ocean, or take pictures with the Sydney Opera House in the background.

But before you fly to Australia, we know you have a lot of questions about traveling in this new post-pandemic normal, so we've put together this quick guide to all the latest Australian travel requirements!

Planning Before Departure

1. Make sure that your condition qualifies for quarantine-free travel

When departing for Australia, you must undergo a complete vaccine that has been approved and recognized by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration. Some of the vaccines approved for entry into Australia are Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Janssen, and Novavax.

In addition, children under the age of 12 who do not get vaccinated will be treated as tourists who have been fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, children aged 12 to 17 years will be considered to have been fully vaccinated if accompanied by an adult (aged 18 years and over) who has also been fully vaccinated.

As a tip, you can keep checking for the latest information and guidelines on the relevant country's website.

2. Use Vaccine certificate digitally

For Singaporean tourists who come, to prove that they have completely vaccinated, you can digitally validate Singapore's vaccination certificate through Notarise (a portal that allows tourists to enter a country and get a digitally authenticated COVID-19 Health Certificate and endorsed, issued by the Government of Singapore). While Australia doesn't require tourists to show vaccine results, you need to have one just in case.

3. Applying for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

For Australian tourists who will spend the holiday in Australia, you can apply for the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) as a type of Visitor Visa to stay temporarily in Australia or have a valid Australian visa.

For submitting an ETA application, an online application service fee of AUD$20 per ETA will also be charged. It is recommended for those of you who wish to travel to Australia to make this application well in advance of departure.

4. Buying Travel Insurance

Travelers who wish to come to Australia are advised to purchase travel insurance which can cover various costs ranging from medical treatment, current treatment for COVID-19 and hospitalization costs.

Upon arrival in Adelaide, South Australia, you will be asked to do a COVID-19 test upon arrival and quarantine at your accommodation until the test results are negative. While in other Australian regions such as New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, Tasmani and Victoria, no further tests are required when tourists arrive.

2. What if a Traveler tested positive while in Australia?

If an arriving tourist has tested positive for COVID-19 in Australia, then you can follow these steps:

Australian Capital Territory

If you are tested positive by PCR, you will be contacted by ACT Health by phone or SMS, if you are tested positive by RAT, then you can fill out the online form so that ACT Health can contact you. If you have tested positive by the RAT, you can fill out the online form so that NSW Health can contact you. Isolate for 7 days after being tested and you can only leave after 7 days if you don't have a sore throat, runny nose, cough, and shortness of breath.

You will receive an SMS from NSW Health after 7 days of isolation, but you can still get out of isolation without waiting for an SMS after the 7th day.

An official COVID-19 letter will also be given to you after you finish your isolation. Visitors from abroad who come to WA Health facilities for COVID-19 will not be charged.

Back to Singapore

All travelers will be required to complete an SG arrival card by no later than 72 hours after departure. You will not be required to take the test under the current Vaccination Travel Framework.

The SG Arrival Card is an electronic landing card for travelers or residents returning to Singapore. This card also serves as a Travel Health Declaration. Travel Health Certificates are required by the government to maintain public health during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
