Let's get ready for an exciting 4-day, 3-night adventure in Hokkaido. We will explore interesting tourist spots in Hokkaido and detail the estimated costs you need to prepare.
The first day marks your arrival in Hokkaido, with the largest city being Sapporo and its nearest airport being New Chitose Airport (CTS), which you can consider as your primary destination while on the island. It would be a missed opportunity if you don't indulge in the beautiful scenery of Hokkaido. On the first day after putting your belongings at your hotel choice, you can visit:
Sapporo TV Tower is located at 1 Chome Odori-nishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo. As one of the city's landmarks, the tower has witnessed the city's development for more than half a century. With a 90-metre-high observation deck, visitors can enjoy views of Odori Park that change throughout the seasons and the various activities there.
On clear days, you can see Ishikari Plain and the Sea of Japan from the observation deck. Moreover, the observation deck is the best spot to witness the White Illumination and Snow Festival in Odori Park during winter.
The basic rate for 2 people is JPY 10,000. The tower is open in winter from 09:00 AM to 09:50 PM, except during the Snow Festival.
During winter in Hokkaido, one magical destination should be on your holiday itinerary—Tomamu Ice Village. This place is an unmissable tourist choice with 11 ice domes and various snow-themed activities.
You can enjoy various snow activities in a magical atmosphere. It has a unique room with tables and chairs made of ice, where visitors can relax while enjoying snacks or drinks against the backdrop of the stunning 'village' of ice and snow.
Other facilities include a merchandise shop, an Ice Rink for ice skating, and much more. Located in Naka-Tomamu, Shimukappu, Yufutsu, Hokkaido, Ice Village operates from 05:00 pm to 10:00 pm (last entry before 09:30 pm) with an entrance fee of JPY 500 (free for guests staying at RISONARE Tomamu or Tomamu The Tower).
Covering an expansive 9000 hectare, this park is captivated by natural beauty, including Mount Oshima-Komagatake, Lake Onuma, and Lake Konuma. The national park is approximately 20 kilometres north of Hakodate and is accessible by bus or the Hokuto Express train from Hakodate Station.
Exciting activities like hiking, cycling, and canoeing can be enjoyed here. If you come when it's snowing, try the unique experience of ice fishing on the frozen lakes.
This intriguing destination offers equally captivating views. You'll witness water with a beautiful light blue colour. Shirogane Blue Pond obtains this distinctive colour due to the aluminium content in the surrounding groundwater. When mixed with the Biei River, this blue colloid forms the characteristic hue of the water.
The scenery around Shirogane Blue Pond is stunning and can be enjoyed throughout the year. The breathtaking contrast between the snow and the light blue water is truly enchanting during the snowy season.
Otaru Canal is located along 1140 metres of original coastline and offshore reclaimed land. With captivating views both day and night, the best time to visit is in February during the Snow Festival. Floating candles along the canal create a serene and romantic holiday atmosphere during this festival.
This place is an open-air museum in the Nopporo Shinrin Koen Prefectural Natural Park, built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Hokkaido. The museum showcases the industries, lifestyles, and early culture of Hokkaido in three periods: Meiji, Taisho, and early Showa.
Historical buildings from across Hokkaido have been relocated and restored here, divided into urban areas, farming villages, mountain villages, and fishing villages. Visitors can experience the atmosphere of Hokkaido from 100 years ago and are recommended to take a tram in the summer and a snow sled in the winter. The Historical Village of Hokkaido also offers classes on making traditional toys and straw crafts to introduce the early culture of Hokkaido.
The opening hours vary each month, from May to September, it's from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm, while from October to April, it's from 09:00 am to 04:30 pm, and closed every Monday or on Tuesday if Monday is a national holiday, and during the New Year holidays. As for the fees, adults are charged JPY 800, high school or college students JYP 600, and free for junior high school students or below, and seniors aged 65 and above.
