Hotels in Taipei - Taipei’s beauty, bubble tea’s deliciousness, Taiwanese meimeis’ beauty, etc., are constant topics of conversation. Yet, the unpredictable nature of Taipei’s climate isn’t something for which you’re well prepared.

Actually, during the warmer months, Taipei can get hotter than Singapore. There is no way to escape the summer heat in Taipei, unless you count the occasional storm. Avoid the heat of the summer by going at a more reasonable time, say, late May to early October.

To fully experience all that Taipei has to offer, plan your trip around the year’s end. In November, Taipei sees mild temperatures, ranging from 18 to 24 degrees Celsius. Wear whatever is most convenient for you, but at night pack a sweatshirt or sweater to layer under your T-shirts. In December, temperatures in Taipei drop to between 15 and 21 degrees Celsius, so those who, like me, suffer from a phobia of the cold should pack accordingly.

It’s a bummer when it rains in Taipei, even if the winters are mild, because the night markets aren’t covered. Whatever the prognosis for Taipei may be, you should always come prepared with a small umbrella and water-resistant footwear.

Flights Time and Prices

If you can be flexible with your trip dates, March or April, or late September or early October are good options. These months are ideal because flights are typically cheaper and the weather is lovely.

From Singapore, you can get to Taipei through any of the following direct flights: Scoot, Jetstar, EVA Air, China Airlines, or Singapore Airlines. Direct flights between Singapore and Taipei take about 4.5 hours, in case you forgot.

For those wondering, Taoyuan Airport (TPE) is located on the outskirts of Taipei city and is the international airport serving the city. (There is actually a second airport in Taipei proper, and it’s named Taipei Songshan Airport. However, it exclusively caters to flights within China and to the mainland. Taipei is in the same time zone as Singapore, so there’s no need to make any adjustments before landing.

This calendar shows pre-Covid-19 approximate round-trip costs for low-cost airlines departing from Singapore and arriving at Taipei:

Peak Season (from November to February) costs $380 to $500
Shoulder (from September to early November) costs $260 to $350
Off-peak (from March to July) costs $230 to $350
