For decades, the mist-cloaked Genting Highlands, where Resorts World Genting is located, has been a favorite getaway for families on weekends and school holidays, thanks to its mild and cool temperature. A recent facelift by the world-class entertainment consortium includes the highland’s newest and poshest stay: Crockfords.

Oozing elegance and luxury, the hotel’s prime location is perfect for casino’s high rollers or those looking for a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Entrance to the hotel is discrete, with great care for guests’ privacy and once inside, you’ll be transported into a retreat like no other. Next door, a swanky lifestyle shopping mall SkyAvenue, the new Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, as well as a 24-hour casino and a movie theater, promise a new level of fun. Read our review of this fabulous stay.

An interior that oozes elegance

Crockfords Genting

Upon walking in, we were quickly drawn to four large flower displays encased in glass frames at the lobby — a specially commissioned installation by British artist Rebecca Louise Law. The body of work, known as “The Four Seasons”, consists of four outstanding installations made of thousands of dried flowers, representing spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Oozing elegance and luxury, the lobby is elegantly decorated in black and gold color schemes, complete with polished marble floors shined to perfection. Unlike the usual check-in process done at the hotel lobby, we were immediately shown to our room by a warm and friendly receptionist, which minimized our waiting time. We felt so taken care of! The staff here are warm and friendly, and we were constantly greeted with “Good morning” or “Hello”, as they walked by. We loved the warm gesture, and by the time we got to our room, we were already uplifted by a sense of pleasantness and kindness.

Impeccable attention to detail in room decor

From the impressive looking lobby, we continued our ohhs and ahhs for our Superior King room, which exudes the quintessential British charm.

Our room is decorated in soothing white and gray color schemes, with plush carpets that felt so nice to our tired feet and made our footsteps quiet. The room features a compact living area complete with a three-seater couch and a coffee table, and flat-screen TV for some serious binge-watching. For those who would need to get some work done, it’s comforting to know a sturdy writing desk is provided, as well as a Nespresso coffee machine, perfect to stay awake through the night to meet work deadlines, or to perk up one’s morning. We were also delightfully surprised by a tiered stand with fruits to welcome our arrival.

For maximum privacy, the super-comfy bed is separated by a partition, and offers amazing views of the surrounding hills through the floor-to-ceiling windows! We absolutely loved the attention to detail put into guests’ needs for a good rest.

A wonderful, modern feature in each room is that, its temperature, light intensity and the drawing of curtains can be adjusted by just a touch of a button located next to the couch, and on the right side of the bed. Everything is just at the tip of your fingers! On both sides of the bed, there are several USB ports and power plugs to charge your smartphones while you read emails, and reading lamps as well as water bottle holders. Just so, you don’t need to get off the bed!

The bathroom is fitted with floor-to-ceiling gray and white marble, giving a spacious and luxurious feel. It is equipped with an in-room steam bath (which we happily enjoyed).

A new level of pampering

Crockfords Genting

After we were done admiring the room, we decided to take a little walk to check out the new SkyAvenue mall. We returned to a surprise — the hotel has delivered sparkling juice and some traditional desserts, as part of the turndown service. That’s not all, we were also gifted with a box of bespoke toiletries of lotions and creams! By now, we not only felt pampered, but spoilt by their thoughtful services. It is no wonder that this hotel is rated five stars by Forbes Travel Guide 2019, the first hotel in Malaysia to receive this distinction!

After a well-rested night, we greeted the misty morning with a scrumptious breakfast of nasi lemak and freshly baked breads with an assortment of butter and jams, served by our own butler. The breakfast-in-bed experience, added by the fact that we could enjoy it in our pyjamas, while gazing out towards the mist-covered hilltops of Genting, completed this wonderful experience of a classy stay. While we didn’t want to leave, alas, real life calls and it’s time to head back to the city.

Verdict: Great attention to detail to interior design and room amenities. The services were impeccable, with warm and thoughtful gestures towards guests throughout our stay. A delightful stay through and through.

See and Do

The prime location of Crockfords offers you a walking distance to many attractions in Resort World. Take the cable car if you prefer not to drive up to the resort. Here are our favorite things to do during our stay:

Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park

Genting Skytropolis Funland

At over 400,000 sq ft, this new Tron-like theme park has more than 20 awesome rides, from thrilling spin rides for the adrenaline junkies to family-friendly rides for those with young children. Our favorites include the Spin Crazy which takes riders on a gut-twisting, 360-degree spin up in the air, and Disco!, which is a huge spinning disc that swings back and forth along a curved track with increasing speed, while rotating rapidly at the same time. We screamed our lungs out, and probably scared passersby along the way.

Genting Strawberry Leisure Farms

Genting Strawberry Leisure Farms

Located within Gohtong Jaya, this family-friendly attraction is only a six-minute drive from the Awana SkyWay cable car station. Spend the morning exploring colorful flower gardens and if you come during the strawberry-picking season, you may take home some freshly-picked strawberries! We particularly loved the lovely scent of the lavender garden, which felt like a natural aromatherapy session. There is also a section where you may pose for photos among giant hydrangeas and gerbera daisies.

Chin Swee Temple

Chin Swee Temple

Situated in one of the most scenic sites in Genting Highlands, the 28-acre rocky, forested land was donated by the late Genting Group founder Lim Goh Tong, and turned into a religious site. Take a cultural stroll through a visual depiction of the afterlife, or enjoy the magnificent mountainous landscape from the temple. Make sure to check out the iconic nine-storey pagoda, the open-air SkyTerrace and the 15-meter tall Buddha statue. You can get here either by car or stop at the Chin Swee Station from the Awana SkyWay cable car station.

With such a wide range of accommodation options across the country, it can be a challenge to pick the one that’s best for you.
