This is, without a doubt, at the top of the list of must-do touristy activities in Langkawi. Hailed as “The Longest Free Span Mono-Cable Car” in the Malaysia Book of Records, you’ll be taken up to 708 meters above sea level to the Top Station. The 360-degree view from Mount Machincang is enough to take your breath away. On a clear day, you can see the islands surrounding Langkawi, even as far as southern Thailand.

After that, you can opt to take a walk on the SkyBridge, recognized as “The Longest Free Span and Curved Bridge In The World”. Accessible from Top Station, you can either take a short hike down or take the SkyGlide. On the bridge, there are glass panels where you can look straight down below – coupled with the slight sway of the bridge at a strong wind, you’ll feel more than a little wobble in your knees.

Still feeling thirsty for adventure after experiencing the heights of Langkawi SkyCab and SkyBridge? Nearby, there’s Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls, also known as Seven Wells Waterfalls. Its name refers to a series of seven ponds (or wells) from seven different falls in Mount Machincang.

Legend has it that fairies inhabit the area, which lend the waters healing properties. If you’re feeling up for it, you can hike up alongside the falls to the top, which takes around 45 minutes. Along the way, you may encounter a few of Langkawi’s wildlife species like macaques, squirrels and hornbills.

At Langkawi Wildlife Park, visitors can get up-close and personal with cute critters. Designed as a covered tropical garden, the five-acre animal sanctuary is home to over 2,500 exotic birds from 150 species, such as canaries, owls, eagles, toucans, hornbills and flamingos. The park also has a walk-in aviary with a 15-metre waterfall feature, a duty-free retail outlet and fun feeding sessions.

If you’re dropping by Dataran Lang for a photo op at Langkawi’s iconic eagle statue, don’t miss out on Taman Lagenda, located right next to it. Though sadly left somewhat neglected, you can still have a pleasant afternoon stroll around the lush greenery of the park, offering a picturesque view of Kuah waterfront and Dataran Lang.

What makes the park special, however, are the 17 sculptures scattered around the park that depict crucial scenes and characters from local folklore, such as battling giants, tragic maidens and mythical creatures. Unfortunately, many of the descriptions detailing the significance of the statues have since faded away, ravaged by weather and time. My favorite part was the long avenue lined with trees, creating a shaded tree tunnel that reminded me of Northern Ireland’s Dark Hedges, featured in Game of Thrones.

If you want to savor the sunset away from the crowds of tourists congregating at Cenang Beach, head to Hidden Beach House, nestled at the quieter Pantai Tengah. Take a seat at the deck facing the beach and sip on a drink to the beat of some chill tunes as you watch the last rays of sunlight.

Feeling peckish? Order burgers or tacos off the menu for a light meal. You’ll also be entertained by intrepid parasailers as they fly through the air above you before landing on the beach. If you want to secure the best seats in the house, be sure to call ahead and make a reservation.
