Ultimate Guidelines on How to Get Around in Langkawi

Langkawi is a must-visit tropical paradise with limitless tourist destinations. Whether you want to relax on the beach, go on an adventure in the forest, or immerse yourself in culture, you will find everything here!

On top of that, this Malaysian archipelago is only a short flight from Singapore, making it an excellent choice for Singaporeans to plan a weekend getaway or extended holiday.

Langkawi's beauty and charm will astound and enchant you, from cable cars to go-karts and cruises. Ahead, we will guide you through the easiest way to get around Langkawi and visit its attractions. Read on!

How to Get Around in Langkawi

1. Car Rental

If you travel in groups and want a more private trip experience, car rental is the best option to explore Langkawi. You can conveniently book car rental in Langkawi via Traveloka. You can go straight to the agent to pick up the car or deliver it to your hotel.

It’s easy to rent a car on this island, with or without a driver, as numerous car rental agents are available, especially around the Kuah Jetty, Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis, or Langkawi International Airport.

Vehicles on this island drive on the left-hand side of the road. As the main roads are well-maintained, it is mostly safe to drive in Langkawi—just be extra careful during rain.

2. Motorbike Rental

Budget-conscious people travelling alone or in a duo are recommended to motorbike rental in Langkawi via Traveloka instead—it is cheaper! On average, motorbike rental costs RM45 per day (doesn’t include gasoline). However, if you visit during peak season, the rates usually increase.

You need to have a valid driving licence to rent and drive it. Plus, wearing a helmet is a must, so ask for it if your rental agent doesn’t give it to you by default. Renting a motorbike also gives you a more fun experience as you get up close to nature more flexibly, especially considering Langkawi is a small island.

3. Bus

As bus services are quite limited in Langkawi, getting around by bus is not recommended unless you’re all about cheap public transportation, plan to stay in Langkawi for several days or weeks without a rush, and want to experience being a resident.

Take a bus from the bus station in front of the City Bayview Hotel in Kuah Jetty to get to the Kuah town centre. You can also take a bus to go to Pantai Cenang. Another option if you’re coming to Langkawi in a big group is to charter a private bus.

4. Taxi

Taxis are the easiest option to get around Langkawi, as you can find them everywhere—at most tourist places, taxi stands, at the airport, ferry terminal, or even on the road.

However, it is also the most expensive alternative compared to other modes. There will be a fixed price before your ride. On average, you need to pay RM18 for a 15-minute ride. You can also use an hourly rate of RM25 per hour (a minimum of four hours and up to four people).
