The beds are very firm, harder than I like. The town is very cute and parking was easy. I recommend it as a good stay if you are passing through, but probably not ideal for basing your visit to the Black Forest area.

Very nice and comfort hotel with a great service from the stuff. Lacking an elevator making it challenging to if you come with some bags. The room was big and comfortable and stylishly decorated.

Hotel Sonne has a great service team. The staff is attentive and notice the little things, for example, that you like to eat breakfast outside or inside. The hotel and rooms themselves are a bit dated but still comfortable. The location is very nice for exploring the Schwarzwald, just 15 minutes from both Freiburg and Hinterzarten, and about an 8 minute walk to the train station in Kirchzarten. The hotel restaurant is delicious.

Overall a pretty good hotel. We had a suite with a master bedroom and a living room area with a Murphy bed. Beds weren't too comfortable but they were ok. Hotel provided a crib for our baby and had it ready in the room when we arrived, which was nice. Hotel also had a play room with lots of toys and books for the kids. A good distraction! Breakfast was good but not a large selection. Biggest complaint is lack of parking. Parking is free in the area but impossible to find a free spot, even on holiday weekend when all of the shops were closed! Very frustrating having to drive back and forth between lots until a spot finally opens up. Shower design was also odd. Shower was very small and had no door or curtain. Water would get all over the floors no matter how careful we tried to be.

We stayed in this lovely hotel for over a week, to visit various places in the Black Forest area. It's located 10 mins walk from the train station which was very convenient to get to Freiburg (just 10 mins or so), and also to the other nearby attractions like Titisee (under 30 mins). There are also bus services to nearby Todtnau, so in all found the location to be very good. Good Breakfast was served with a good variety of bread and usual breakfast items. Lots of Tea options for Tea lovers. Though we stayed for over a week, we weren't bored with the food. We didn't have any other meal here as there were other options in Kirchzarten for dinner like Spritzenhaus Pub minutes away. The Hotel was well decorated, our room and common areas were always clean throughout our stay. The people were very friendly and helped whenever we needed. As the hotel provided KONUS Gastekarte, it reduced our local travel costs a great deal. WiFi worked well. The room is not air conditioned but then we only came back late in the evenings, so the breeze was enough to keep it cool. We'd definitely go back to this Hotel if we were visiting this region of Black Forest in a few years time!

We were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Sonne. Kirchzarten was a lovely place set in beautiful surroundings. Breakfast was great. Good service. Very cozy family-run hotel. The suite on the top floor was spacious and great for a big family like ours. Hope we get the chance to stay there another time.

Despite arriving very early after a long overnight drive from England the staff at this family owned hotel were extremely welcoming. I was offered breakfast after parking by which time my room our room was available. Everybody was friendly and polite and I would not hesitate in recommending The Sonne Hotel Kirchzarten to anybody looking for a comfortable stay in the Black Forest with easy access to walking trails, cycle trails and the train station. Thank you Sonne Hotel.

We stayed for 3 nights, their assistance very good, the breakfast just be wonderful, of which my wife and I love very much. also clean room and polite service make us a nice staying experience. It is near Titisee, a very small but peacefully town, better for a leasuring. The free tickets provided by hotel make us travel around without any costs on the transportation

This was one of our best experiences with a hotel and location. Andy and his father were more than nice and helpful. The staff were so nice and kind to us as well. The hotel entrance in right through the restaurant which is fantastic. Breakfast was awesome (buffet) and lunches and dinners were just as nice. Room had a view of the black forest which was nice. No elevator but the staff carry your luggage up (they won't let you do it!). Shower and toiletries were wonderful and we had three adults in our room yet their was so much space for us and our luggage. Dad is very tall and big, but the shower was perfect for him. Lots of storage too in entrance part of room. Beds were nice and warm. The town is wonderful to walk around in (shops and restaurants) and the Hotel is 7 minutes walk to train station. We got the train into Freiburg one day and Lake Titisee another day. We loved the hotel and town so much, we hope to go back one day and explore more of that whole area of Germany.

We had a lovely room with balcony facing the front of the hotel. This was light and airy and it was nice to sit out on the private balcony in the evening. The bed was not as comfortable as it could have been and pillows had no substance to them. Had to ask for extra, but were amiably supplied. Staff were very friendly and helpful. They even allowed us to use the sauna late in the evening and it was nice to sit out on the deck chairs in the private courtyard to relax afterwards. A very enjoyable stay and such a lovely village rather than staying in nearby Frieburg. The free rail passes were appreciated too. We went to nearby Badeparadies Schwarzwald, a huge water park with spas. Great for a rainy day and nice to get off the motorbike for a break.

Hotel room was lovely, modern yet tasteful. Had its own verandah we would have loved it had it not been 35 to 38 degrees when we were staying and no air con meant a very unpleasant night. Also the girl on reception spoke no English and did not give us a Konus card(free travel) so we were out of pocket (over 70€) as public transport fares are very expensive. The Manager did sort of apologise. I guess it was our fault not speaking German. No lift as well. Sounds like we had a bad experience but apart from the frustration of the travel card it was a lovely hotel.

We enjoyed our stay in this traditional hotel. The room was comfortable, though hot because there was no air-con. Breakfast was included and had a good selection. The hotel is in a very pretty village, convenient for exploring the Black Forest area.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Sonne. The room was comfortable and well colour coordinated. Arriving early by car there was no problem checking in. Parking was in the nearby public car park. Our room was at the front of the hotel but not too noisy. The beds were comfortable and there was a seating area in the room with a table. There was a TV but only CNN in English. The en-suit shower room had excellent shower. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.

Hotel Sonne is a lovely, small, traditional hotel in an excellent location for a holiday in the southern Black Forest. We chose the hotel for a family holiday as we realised it would give us easy access to Freiburg (15 minutes by train), Europa-Park (40 minutes by car) and various outdoor activities at Titisee, Todtnau, etc. We were not disappointed! The hotel owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean. The hotel has a varied menu and the food quality was excellent. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

With all the touches of an authentic Schwarzwald guesthouse, this is a very fine, well-run hotel in the center of Kirchzarten. The staff was most friendly and accommodating, our room with balcony was lovely, their restaurant menu was irresistible, and their breakfast buffet was a great start to the day!

The hotel is a traditional German Gasthaus. We originally booked a small double with balcony which the manager suggested we upgrade as it was very small. The upgrade was to a beautiful, sunny large room which was worth every euro! Although without a balcony. As others have said the hotel is on a busy road which might be a problem in the summer when the windows would be open. We would book a room away from the road in future. The hotel restaurant is excellent and is very reasonably priced. A traditional continental breakfast was served with a good range of fruit, breads, meats, cheeses, muesli and scrambled or boiled egg. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The village has an excellent range fo cafes, restaurants and there are several small supermarkets and chemists nearby. It is also well placed for hiking and biking. We will definitely return!

Worst hotel we experienced during a one week stay in Germany. Staff were friendly and professional, but the room was tiny (could barely walk around the bed), and the noise from the street was so loud that it felt like sleeping outside. The bed also sloped slightly and the place was generally unattractive. Parking was next door, but inconvenient because of very small spaces and a crowded lot. There are much better places to stay in the Freiburg area.
