Had an amazing experience at Yama No Chaya. The food was incredible. We had a meal at a 3 Michelin star restaurant in another city in Japan prior to coming here, and the meal we had our first night at Yama No Chaya was even better. The people who worked here were also extremely accommodating, friendly, and caring. I am pregnant and unfortunately started to not feel well or able to eat much. The staff took it upon themselves to get me some more bland options to eat (which was a huge bummer, as the food was incredible!!!). We neither requested nor expected any sort of accommodation due to my issue, but they did so anyway! We’ve been traveling for over a month in Japan and this was one of our favorite experiences thus far. Highly recommend!

I went to Yama No Chaya with my wife for our last day in Japan for our honeymoon. Giving it as low a rating as I am is difficult because it’s a wonderful experience in many ways. The private Onsen is wonderful. Our attendant was incredible. Both dinner and breakfast were delectable. But, for the cost you pay for a room like this… there was an inexcusable situation we faced as a result of it being winter. The room was frigid. Even with the AC cranked as high as it could go, there was no way for it to keep up with the cold outside. This also meant that the area where our toilet was likely in the 40-50 degree range the entire stay. The main room was so cold that after sleeping in a draft the whole evening I developed a terrible cold. I can understand this is a traditional experience… but there are Japanese toilets and other creature comforts throughout. The lack of insulation or at the very least providing of a space heater for the section of the room connected to the outdoor area was truly inexcusable. I would recommend this type of experience to others… but most certainly not in our room.

Our stay at Yama no Chaya in Hakone was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed into a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. The kaiseki meals were an absolute highlight—each dish beautifully presented and bursting with seasonal flavors. The private onsen was pure bliss, especially after a day of exploring. Soaking in the warm, mineral-rich water enjoying the mountain views was the perfect way to unwind. What truly made our stay unforgettable was the exceptional service, especially from our attendant, Antsu. He went above and beyond to ensure we had the most comfortable and memorable experience. If you’re looking for a serene escape with impeccable hospitality, incredible food, and a rejuvenating onsen experience, Yama no Chaya is the place to be. We can’t wait to return!

This was an unbelievable and exceptional experience. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, we were catered to and treated so warmly from the staff, our personal host took care of all our needs and went over and above to make us feel welcomed. He made sure we had complimentary champagne just because it was our anniversary and also arranged for the hotel to drive us to the train station on our departure day, complimentary as well. The rooms were beautiful and so comfortable! The private en-suite onsen blew us away, we had such a relaxing and peaceful view! The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were amazing and so delicious, each dish was like a piece of art. We only stayed one night but the experience was one of the best we had during our 2 weeks in Japan. I hope one day to return!

4 of us enjoyed a brilliant getaway experience here at Yama-no-Chaya in the serine Hakone region. We enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner here which were all fantastic. Fresh, authentic Japanese cuisine with modern, fine dining presentation. The rooms were comfortable and warm, with plenty of towels and extra sheets. The best part was the private onsen area that your group is entitled to for 1 hour of personal use. This was a great time to relax, reflect, and enjoy nature in it's purest form. They had a full bar in the lobby of the hotel to enjoy a cocktail and light snacks at a price. I have many tattoos and was still welcomed here. Thank you for such a memorable experience - much love from Canada!
