This is a lovely hotel in a great location, rooms were basic, did miss having a kettle but we knew that before booking. Breakfast was good and a glass of fizz every morning went down well!. Staff sorted out a day trip for us which was fantastic to see another part of the island. I would have given it 5 stars for everything but when I went to use the hairdryer it sparked in my hand and sent orange flames out of it, there was a burning smell from the lead. we went down and told the receptionist about it and she said she would let maintenance know, as far as we knew nobody came up and changed it, needless to say I did not use the hairdryer again.

I really like the Hotel do Carmo, I've been twice and just boked again for April 2026. April is a great time to go, the tuna season begins and you can get fresh tuna steaks everywhere for a good price. The rooms are nice and clean in the hotel, I like the balconies and it's on a quiet road but a very central location. It's much better staying in this part of town than the somewhat dull part near the large hotels up the hill. The staff are lovely, the bar is good value, the pool is warm and the breakfast is reasonable. There is nowhere else I would ratehr stay in Funchal, given the location and the price.

Came here with 2 kids (10/12). Worked out pretty well. The location is amazing and the pool is great (too bad we went in Jan). It would be nice if the rooms has some additional amenities like a refridge but my feeling is that is because of the way euro rooms work with the key in the door. Remember to reach out to book the parking! A reasonable 10 euro a night.

My husband and I stayed here in December. The hotel is good value for the price and although the street where the hotel is situated is a bit run down, the location to all Funchal's amenities makes up for that. Our room was small but clean and functional. The water pressure in the shower was great and there was always plenty of hot water. The bed was comfortable but I was surprised that there were no mattress or pillow protectors! Also, the pillows were very lumpy. Breakfast became very boring after a few days (we were there for a week). It never varied from overcooked scrambled eggs, cold cocktail sausages with mushrooms, cold greasy bacon and hard boiled eggs. There was a good selection of bread and rolls and processed meats and cheese, and of course yoghurt, fruit and 3 cereals. We got enough to keep us going but every morning we hoped there would be a change to the offering. There is a drinks machine for hot drinks. It needed cleaned out as no matter how many times I pressed the hot water for my tea, I got a plop of coffee. The lady in the restaurant told me it was normal. I don't think after four unsuccessful atempts that it is normal. The lovely young Nepalese man gave me a cup of boiled water from the kitchen. Overall we enjoyed our stay and can honestly say I've never experienced such lovely staff in a hotel.

Simple hotel with nice decor. The rooms are small and simple. Breakfast was good but the juice wasn't. Has a weird taste. Overall excellent value for money for a 3 star hotel. The location was brilliant, great access to some good restaurants and tours.
