Hilton Garden Inn Portsmouth Downtown

Awful experience had to leave in less than 24 hours due to extensive construction going on without any communication before booking. Couldn't breathe, sleep or stay inside the hotel for any length of time. Had to cut our vacation short due to inability to breathe.

The hotel was under construction, a remodel and the pool and spa and breakfast were not available. Hotel.com should have made me aware of this issue. Had I known I would not have booked the a stay at this hotel

It’s clean with nicely appointed rooms, and is located in downtown Portsmouth. It is a short walk to everything Portsmouth has to offer; top restaurants, great shopping, and music venues.

The hotel is in the middle of renovations so the common spaces (bar, dining area, sitting areas, etc.) are not available.

The property was being renovated, and most of the amenities weren't available, and the whole place felt like a construction site, but this wasn't clear on the Expedia site. We chose the hotel for a romantic night out, specifically with a hot tub- which was closed. I really wish this had just been clear before we paid full price, when other nicer hotels had similarly priced rooms- that weren't dirty, noisy hard hat zones.

Restaurant, lounge, pool, hot tub and fitness room were all closed for renovations. This wasn't disclosed by Expedia or Hilton when the room was booked. The carpet in the room was filthy and stained everywhere without ever being thoroughly cleaned. There's one area where someone clearly vomited. There was mold on the shelves and in the corner of the shower. This property was priced similarly to other hotels in downtown Portsmouth. The other hotels offer the same amenities and convenience. This location should be a complete embarrassment for the Hilton brand.

under construction. restaurant cold and only cold food. had to change rooms as tv didn't work. dusty due to construction. maintenance man knocked on door. no identification that he was an employee.

We picked this place due to the bar and location. Upon entering the whole place was being remodeled, no bar, only one elevator that took forever to use due to construction equipment and other guests. Stairs were only an option going down an they led to the street and could not be reentered. Price seemed the same if not a lil more than the surrounding hotels which seemed a little unfair considering the construction, etc...

.Very disappointing - no gym, no pool, no dining - only cold breakfast available at $10 PP!! Really?? Should be free - mold encrusted tub - where else are the maids cutting corners?? Room rate not cut to show the lack of what has been discussed.

We were told on arrival (not before) that the property was under construction and that pool, hot tub, fireplace, were not functioning. No dining room or bar for the most part. Dreadful conditions in elevator, hallways and other areas. We should really be refunded our money. Not even a room cleaner for some of the nights. Such a disappointment! Other guests were also complaining.

We were never informed upon check in that the hotel was undergoing a complete renovation. The pool and fitness center were closed. The restaurant tables, glassware and dishes were covered in drywall dust. Only 2 or 3 of the 5 floors were open to guests and the hallway leading to the rooms had an unpleasant odor. The fire alarms went off during our second morning, and while we were trying to leave via the stairwell the emergency exits were not accessible due to the construction. For these reasons we decided to check out early and will not stay there again!

The room had trash under the beds and the amount of black mold in the shower was so disgusting we decided not to use it.

The hotel is under major renovation. Do not stay here.

I always stay here but very disappointed that we didn’t know that the pool was closed. They did not have that listed on their website

Hotel pool, gym, bar restaurant and public space unavailable because of construction. Hotels.com should have disclosed this as there are plenty of alternatives in Portsmouth.

Very nice downtown Portsmouth New Hampshire hotel. We are very pleased.

Front desk staff is always friendly and kind. The rooms and bathrooms are comfy and clean. We stay here twice a year when we travel to this area!

They scheduled major construction and turned off water to the building (no toilet, no hand washing, etc) with no notice to any of the hotel guests. We paid the same (high price) as their competitors downtown, but had to use bathroom in nearby bar and skip showers. We had no available restaurant, gym facilities, bar, etc. My polite email and call to the GM went unanswered. The only notice was a sign in the closed public space. Other guests shared the same story. The “Hilton Promise” sign is a cynical reminder that the test of good service is a promise fulfilled, not one made. That’s called something else
