We stayed here to get further away from the big fire in Altadena. What a wonderful choice we made. The room was perfect. Had a bunk bed for the kids and their area was partitioned off with their own TV. They even offered kids movie nights in their theater. What a great find. We’ll definitely be back!

We loved the property. The restaurant attached was wonderful. The food was delicious and the prices were reasonable. My only complaint was that we had a room facing the highway and the traffic noise was loud. At the same time, it was conveniently located just off the highway,.so it made traveling easy. The shuttle to Universal and City Walk was also nice.

We along with half our city had to evacuate from the wildfires. We had trouble checking in despite our prepaid reservations they also wanted $30 per car night , (we had evacuated with 3 cars ) even though we had two double rooms booked which in my opinion is price gauging in times of emergencies. The news is full of generous businesses doing things for fire victims and first responders but this hotel is tone deaf. The coup de grace is they turned off all our keys at 11:50 am because they have a 12 n check out and this is their practice unbeknownst to us, we were ALL locked out of the hotel when we started to load up our cars. We have our dog & evacuated with valuables so of course we needed to make a couple trips. I had requested a late check out earlier too, later they told me that their keys lock automatically at noon but it was well before. Regardless there is no warning at check in. Who does that? This has never happened before. I complained to the staff and manager. He offered to comp our parking but did not seem empathetic. The desk staff were just rude. So although this hotel looks like a boutique hotel, services and hospitality imho is well below even an Embassy Suites or a Doubletree and far far from anything luxury or boutique. The restaurant had a warm friendly staff- the only great service we encountered. It also was nice for dogs but they charged us a $74 dog fee they said included special amenities like a dog bowl and we never got that either.

Family trip - Nice & quaint hotel. Very boho vintage vibe, lots of lights. Great ambiance. Lots of nice amenities available. Room was clean. I gave only four stars, however, for a couple of reasons. We booked a standard room with a king bed that said we could purchase a roll away for our child but when we got there, they said that was wrong, that standard rooms don’t come with the roll away option and we would have to pay for an upgrade, except the building that we’d upgrade to would have no wifi or tv due to current issues. For our inconveniences though, they did comp us for the upgrade, the cost of the roll away, and parking, which was great. The advertising of the roll away on the standard room I feel is more of a hotels.com fault anyway and should be updated. Also, I don’t agree with having to pay for parking on top of the hotel charge, it should be included, but again, we were comped, so didn’t affect us this time. Overall, I really liked the hotel and would stay again if ever back in the area. They also have a free shuttle to Universal Studios, which was right on the other side of the freeway, so that was nice. My only other complaint is the noise from the freeway. We were on the other side of the hotel not facing the freeway and you could still hear it loudly with the door shut. I know not much can be done about that though and after awhile you zone it out. Still a very nice hotel and highly recommend.

I only stayed for one night but once I saw the place I wish I stayed a little longer. The food at the restaurant is very good. It has a cabin and cozy feel in a city which makes it a great place.

The Garland’s front desk staff was attentive, cheerful and helpful. The hotel was perfectly located for our weekend at Universal Studios- they even shuttled us there and back. The Garland was adorable and had live music, swim up movies, and a cool bar and lounge area. Our beds and pillows were comfortable, they even provided a crib and rollaway bed at no charge. I would choose to stay at the Garland again and try the well reviewed restaurant and enjoy more hotel activities.

Honestly, I was very excited to stay at this property for years. I purchased a 2 night VIP package that was supposed to include a free bottle of champagne and a free room upgrade. When the assistant manager checked me into my room, I was sure to mention all the perks that I was excited about. Only to be told there are no upgrades available, nor champagne. I then went into the room and it was definitely one of their aged rooms. It was not updated at all, there were lashes on the wall that the previous guest placed, the shower was not a shower- a sprinkler with a dirty tub, and the door and floors had water damage. I just felt so dirty after that first night. I went to the front desk with photos and a lovely lady tried her best to help me. She switched rooms for me and what do you know, upon entering the room at 9AM (which supposedly wasn’t available the night before) it was a drastic difference. It had a stand in shower and wasn’t dirty. I notified the assistant manager who is very happy about her title, and she basically didn’t care. I had no problems with service from any of the staff besides her. I wasn’t really feeling acknowledged after she is the one that put me in that third party room knowing the status was far from a VIP experience. I didn’t want to leave a review. But to have 4.5 stars, someone has to tell the truth. Will I stay here again? Probably not.

We were in town for 2 days and The Garland was the perfect place for us. The room was great, the free shuttle to Universal was awesome and I loved the vibe of the entire place. Every person on staff was helpful and if you dine in the restaurant we highly suggest the 12 minute Biscuits (Bacon & Cheddar), The Roasted Chicken and the Tomahawk. The S'mores dessert was delicious.

The location of this property made it very accessible to have a stress free visit to Universal Studios Hollywood. The trolley solved the parking, waiting, worry of transport in and out of Universal and City Walk.
