We had a delightful 5 day stay at the Guest House. The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful. They suggested excellent restaurants and helped us set up a tour of the Douro. The Guest House location is perfect. The rooms are ample, clean and comfortabe. Two cautions: No elevator. Busy.street. We strongly feel that the Guest House is well worth managing these inconveniences.

The air conditioner was not working, and although the staff tried to assist by providing an electric heater when we reported the issue, the room still wasn't warm enough. On the first night, we had to sleep without any heating. Additionally, there was a lot of noise from outside as the property was located above a tunnel, and the sound of cars could be heard at night. Otherwise, it was a nice room with a good location.

I am surprised by the number of 5 star reviews, which I used to choose my accommodations. The room itself is large and looks nice. I liked the big windows and the hardwood floors and appreciated the mini fridge. The shower was extremely small (like 2 feet square) and did not drain well. If I ran the water more than 2 minutes, the shower floor started to flood. The bed was two small mattresses side by side. The mattresses were in terrible condition, like they got run over by a truck on the side of the road. Speaking of road, as others have said, the hotel is right next to a busy road and tunnel where cars honk a lot both at night and in the early morning. If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs, but you probably won't be sleeping anyway because of the mattress. There is no elevator but there is an AC unit, I was able to check in by using a code they sent me via Whatsapp.

I booked something that I didn't expect. The exterior of the building is tiny, one door to the street. Managed by the staff from the next door coffee shop. When they close at 5, it's a bit more difficult to check in, but possible. The location was great. Our room was on the 3rd floor, which is 4 flights up a new modern but narrow staircase. Luckily our carry-on wasn't any heavier.

We had a very comfortable stay here for a reasonable price considering it is in a very touristy part of Porto. The rooms are spacious with a kitchenette and breakfast bar area. At night you might hear a lot of noise from the cars honking on the street but we didn’t have trouble putting in earplugs and sleeping anyway.
