Do not be put off by the fact I gave it 4 stars for comfort - part of its charm is nothing is straight in the place. The windows, doors and often the floors are wonky. But is really is a fantastic place to stay. Where else are you going to walk through a wardrobe to your bathroom. Lovely None of the pics I uploaded do it justice

Very comfortable rooms and beds. Slept well. The serving staff at breakfast were a bit unprofessional discussing some internal hotel politics loudly which was a shame.

Held together with steel tie bars....good job. Warm rooms, facilities excellent. Friendly staff.

What a building Lumley Castle is!!! Beautifully converted into a hotel keeping the originality of the castle, reception staff welcoming which was a theme continuing to the bar and waiting staff. Food and drinks were lovely and the room very comfortable, I will definitely be revisiting!

Check in wasn’t good , the directions to the room wasn’t clear, after 15 min of walking round the castle with two heavy bags we had to phone reception and ask them to come and help us . While walking round the castle we say lots and lots of dirty plates, cups glasses, left over food, outside peoples rooms and on windows sills. The stairs to our room were very difficult to get up. I ordered a bottle of bubbly and two glasses to the room as a SUPRISE for my husbands birthday. It never arrived even after me speaking to reception to ask if they could bring it up , when we checked out they tried to charge me for it. The room was dusty and the pot for tea coffee ect was absolutely filthy. Broken ornaments in the room, poor lighting , hardly any coat hangers, lack of attention to detail from house keeping, I would say, stains on the table and a very worn chair in the room. We stayed in the courtyard a few weeks ago and the room was amazing, we paid over £100 extra for this room and it was very poor. The staff are amazing, all extremely friendly, extremely helpful, polite, , the breakfast was very good , the cocktails in the library are lovely. We will definitely come back , but would only book to stay in the courtyard now, unless there is some updating work done in the castle rooms.

Fantastic building full of character and history. Courtyard rooms are lovely but not overly great on soundproofing as we could hear the neighbours too easily, also, the blind in the bathroom was an awful fit to the window but overall a brilliant experience that I would do again in heartbeat. My wife and I played hide and seek in all the nooks and crannies of the castle and we’re both in our fifties so a fab place

We love staying at Lumley castle. We try to find a new place to try each year for ours birthday but Lumley is our favourite and this was our 3rd visit. The rooms are clean and quiet and so comfortable. The staff have always been so nice and accommodating. The food is lovely and always cooked to perfection and the library bar is perfect for relaxation! We can’t await to come back and will be booking twice in 2025!

Very nice castle hotel and lovely to sit in the period lounge. It’s a slight maze to walk around, but that’s part of the charm. Cooked breakfast is made to order and it could include kippers for a small 3 GBP supplement . A great historic building and many bedrooms are in a converted courtyard attached to the Main castle building.

Beautiful hotel. Exceptionally attentive staff. Breakfast delicious. Lovely pet cat too.

A real castle! So much atmosphere.

Me and the wife had a fantastic stay. Very friendly staff and a very comfortable bar area with open fire. Rooms were lovely and clean. Great experience.

Excellent room friendly staff. Excellent food

This was one of the nest hotel stays we have had. The room was very spacious and the best was extremely comfortable. The food at the restaurant was out of this world. We are looking forward to staying there again very soon. We recommend the Richard II room. The only drawback is we couldnt see the TV from the bed.

Lumley castle er et sjarmerende og spesielt hotell, men jeg synes det var bedre service, bedre mat og bedre dekor tidligere. Det er et gammelt slott, så en må forvente at det er trekkfullt og kaldt, men det kunne vært gjort endel for å f.eks forhindre at vinduene slamrer, at toilettdøren kan lukkes etc. Har du vonde knær eller hofter, styr unna dette hotellet, da det er mye trapper og ingen heis.

Very cool to be in a castle! Waiting service needs attention. Slow and automatically placed 12.5% gratuity on bill. She asked if I wanted to take it off, but what pressure! Fix that the place is great!
