I think this ryokan is somewhat overrated on Hotels.com. Specifically, first, it is definitely showing its age. Second, if you have back problems, the accommodation might be uncomfortable, because the seat thing is at floor level. I requested a table and a chair, but they didn’t have a high enough table. I found that surprising. The meals are fantastic and the staff are extremely polite.

I would not stay here again. 2nd cup of coffee was extra. Everything extra. Staff has poor communication skills, does not understand. No one is helpful- rules, rules, rules. No management visible or available. Did not honor Expedia perks. Overall not good.

No taxi service or shuttle to the station. No sidewalks to get to station. Onsen water lacks minerals and doesn’t leave your skin feeling silky or smooth. Didn’t offer dinner service with no restaurant nearby. Thankfully we were given breakfast and it was adequate. Considering the price, dinner should definitely be included.

I would highly recommend this hotel. We had a room with a private onsen and enjoyed sitting in it whenever we wanted. A private breakfast and dinner are included and the food was amazing. No need to pay for expensive Kaiseki. We have never felt so pampered.

The hotel is nice and clean. Dining room staff was nice but food was mediocre. Front office staff can be more guest service focused and speak better English

Excellent service and great dining experience

The dining table was too low so my knees hit beneath the table. The bath room wash area was too cold as it was an open space.

Very nice resort, focused on rest and relaxation. The staff were very responsive, and took care of everything. There is no exercise room, and no western style chairs in the rooms.

Nice hotel and very relaxing. The food was amazing here and really enjoyed the traditional Japanese details.

It's located a little up the hill, which provides a nice view. But not much dining option unless you walk down the hill to the main street. Very nice room and staffs are helpful and friendly.

This hotel was excellent - fantastic and helpful service, very clean both in the rooms and in the common areas, great food, serene atmosphere, and generously sized rooms. Our room had a balcony with a private onsen, which was absolutely worth the splurge. The view was beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised by how comfy the futons were when we slept. The location was convenient to the bus lines but still so peaceful and quiet. 10/10 stars, without hesitation. I would love to come back!

The ohnsen in ourc room was amazing with a spectacular view. The staff go out of their way to make sure your stay is fabulous.

The service at this establishment was wonderful. Everyone was helpful, patient, and caring. Really made our stay a pleasant one. The private onsen was great! Didnt realize there was a bus conveniently located nearby you could take to/from the Hakone-Yumoto Station which made things easier even though it was within walking distance (approx 15mins)

Hakone was the top of my list to round off my trip and what an experience it was! Though expensive, the money it costs you goes into the food and service you recieve from the moment you step in. But before that - fair warning there is a VERY challenging hill to get to Hakone Airu, so please be prepared to get the very limited shuttle bus up there, or a taxi which may also be quite pricey. The hill IS paved, but it is a very narrow road, very steep, and has a 90 degree bend in it making it a blind corner, so take care. That aside, the place is stunning! Modern with a touch of classit Japanese stling. Staff greeted us at the door, took our bags and shoes and moved us into the lounge to relax with a drink. The entire building is floored with tatami matsand the water feature running trhough the centre ofcentre of the building is loud, but lovely. You even walk over it to the lounge! Once the staff move your bags up to your room, you will be shown around then left to your own devices. There may not be much to do in this particular hotel but what it has, it does exceptionally.Our room was the highlight, 4th floor Mountain view with a private bath, andwhat a view it was! The brutal hill was worth it to see over the entirety of Hakone with the mountains front and centre. We were provided Yukata an assortment of teas and a few refridgerted drinks for our stay which was nice but rather limited. Any extras are added to a tab which is payed for after your stay including alcohol. Oit
