As the public holiday was bit crowded but once we got on the cruise. It was beautiful. We bought the upper cabin so we were offered cold coconut🥰. Unexpected saxophone performance. Such a romantic trip. It worths every penny we paid. Traveloka was also helpful when we booked the 4pm slot but was full and changed us to 7pm . Not bad at all with all the night lights.

Although more expensive, the 339k ticket is completely worth it. There is beer but no snacks so it's a bit of a pity😂

I booked tickets for my family of 7. There are seats to wait at the pier. When I got the tickets and entered the gate, the staff was very helpful. On the boat, I could see the sparkling city lights at night, taking beautiful photos for my family. The service on the boat included 1 free coconut drink, mineral water, soft drinks with melodious violin music. But the minus point is that the sound is a bit loud, so it should be turned down to be able to hear the sound of the waves on the river, which would be better.

Extremely recommended experience. New train, 02 floors, safe, smooth running, cool breeze, extremely beautiful Saigon sunset view. There is someone who plays the saxophone extremely well, full of songs... You should arrive 30 minutes before the train departs to take pictures at the wharf area, change seat numbers at the counter before checking in to board the train. You should buy chairs on the upper floor to enjoy the entire beautiful view. On the train there is Katinat but there are only 02 choices of drinks and the card cannot be swiped.

When you think of Saigon, now known as Ho Chi Minh City, images of bustling markets, historic landmarks, and vibrant street life likely come to mind. Yet, at the heart of this dynamic metropolis lies the serene Saigon River, a waterway that has witnessed the city’s evolution from a modest port town to a sprawling urban center. The Saigon River offers a unique perspective on the city, providing visitors with an escape from the hustle and bustle and a chance to experience the city’s charm from a different vantage point.

About Saigon River

The Saigon River, stretching over 225 kilometers, flows through Southern Vietnam before merging with the sea at the Mekong Delta. Its journey through Ho Chi Minh City makes it a crucial artery for both transportation and commerce. Historically, the river has been a lifeline for the city, facilitating trade and contributing to its growth and prosperity. Today, it continues to play a vital role in the city’s economy, while also serving as a picturesque backdrop for leisure and tourism.

Saigon River Opening Hours

Unlike many attractions with set opening hours, the Saigon River is accessible around the clock. However, specific activities and tours along the river have their schedules. Most boat tours operate from early morning until late evening, allowing visitors to enjoy both the sunrise and sunset over the water. Dinner cruises, a popular option for tourists, typically start in the early evening and continue until late at night.

What is Special About Saigon River?

The Saigon River stands out for its unique blend of natural beauty and urban landscapes. As you cruise along the river, you’ll be treated to views of modern skyscrapers juxtaposed with historical sites and traditional Vietnamese homes. The river offers a tranquil escape from the city’s frenetic pace, providing a serene environment where you can relax and soak in the scenery. Additionally, the river is a cultural crossroads, reflecting the diverse influences that have shaped Ho Chi Minh City over the centuries.

Things to Do at Saigon River

1. River Cruises

One of the most popular activities on the Saigon River is taking a river cruise. These cruises range from short daytime trips to elaborate dinner cruises. A daytime cruise offers a chance to see the city’s landmarks from the water, while a dinner cruise provides a romantic setting with live entertainment and traditional Vietnamese cuisine.

2. Kayaking and Canoeing

For the more adventurous, kayaking or canoeing on the Saigon River is an excellent way to explore the waterways at your own pace. This activity allows you to get up close to the local flora and fauna and offers a unique perspective on the riverside communities.

3. Visiting Riverside Markets

The river is home to several bustling markets, such as the Ben Nghe Market and the Binh Dong Floating Market. These markets offer a vibrant array of local produce, handicrafts, and street food, providing an authentic taste of Vietnamese culture.

4. Exploring Thao Dien

Thao Dien, a trendy neighborhood along the river, is known for its chic cafes, boutiques, and expat community. It’s a great place to enjoy a leisurely afternoon, indulge in some shopping, or savor international cuisine with a river view.

5. Photography

The Saigon River is a photographer’s paradise, with its stunning sunsets, bustling river traffic, and contrasting urban and natural landscapes. Whether you’re an amateur or a professional photographer, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to capture the beauty of the river.

When is the Best Time to Visit the Saigon River?

The best time to visit the Saigon River is during the dry season, which runs from December to April. During this period, the weather is generally pleasant, with lower humidity and minimal rainfall, making it ideal for outdoor activities and river cruises. The peak tourist season is from January to March, so if you prefer fewer crowds, consider visiting in December or April. The rainy season, from May to November, can still be enjoyable, but you should be prepared for occasional heavy showers and higher humidity.
