Grandmas Plus Hotel - Legian

Muhammad Zulfadli bin Abd Aziz
For anyone who has spent a long time deciding where to stay while in Bali (the Badung area in general) like me, please consider staying at Grandmas Legian (and Grandmas in other areas). I choose this hotel after considering the distance from the airport, room rate + breakfast, CHSE-certified, nearby area, and reviews from various site and other travel apps. Also, if you need more information or other pictures for reference, please kindly check them out on Instagram or their website. Since this is what I did back then. At that time I got a cozy room (for 2 guests) + breakfast for 4 days 3 nights at a price of IDR 720,000 (*chef kiss) Booking through this app without a deposit at check-in. The check-in process is also fast (if you need an early check-in, you can try to confirm beforehand via telephone). The bell-boy helped me out of the car and gave me an umbrella to the hotel entrance because it was raining. The bellboy also helped me carry a lot of my stuff (and baggage) and politely refused to given a tip because he said he was willing to help. The receptionist is friendly, communicative, informative and responsive. On the third day of my stay, I called the receptionist for advice and recommendations on where to buy souvenirs and nearby tourist destinations (along with details and entrance fees), and the receptionist enthusiastically answered these questions. I went to visit all the places she recommended me and it didn't disappoint me at all! Superb! Everything is as good as what she described on the phone. The housekeeping staff is also friendly and informative, something I rarely encounter even at 4-star hotels. They were eager to give me recommendations for halal places to eat around the hotel, places to see dolphins, various temples in Bali, and of course they did their job quickly and efficiently while talking to me while doing so haha. The breakfast menu is quite diverse and tastes good, the restaurant staff also does not hesitate to offer their new menu which can be ordered as a breakfast menu. The restaurant and public places itself have cozy and comfy atmosphere. Walking distance to Indomaret or Alfamart. Lots of nearby places to eat either you wanna order it online or walking. No worries! I was lucky to get a hotel with this kind of service at a very affordable price. I would not mind recommending this hotel to my family and friends. I also most likely will come back here when I vacation in Bali again later. They literally got everything covered for you in the room. In this affordable room, sure I don't get hotel slippers (due to covid regulations if I'm not mistaken) but you already have a television, mini fridge, wardrobe along with some clothes hangers (simple details that I like), work desk, mineral water that can be refilled once per day, AC that works well, and a fairly fast and stable wifi connection. I have sensitive skin and are allergic to insect bites but I didn't have any issues with this hotel bed linen. I can sleep comfortably without any allergies recur. Pillows are quite puffy and blankets are also quite thick and warm. Linen smells like clean laundry. The bathroom just a little bit cramped, but no worries since I don't spend that much time inside haha. The toiletries are all there (they even provide a good quality shower cap and hair tie (something simple but very helpful for me who often lose my hair tie when traveling). Shower and sink with hot and cold water worked very well. The water sprays out lot with a good pressure nonetheless it's nice. Two things in the room that bothered me a little when I first arrived were the refrigerator and water boiler that didn't turn on when they were plugged in and the water tap continued to flow little by little. But, I immediately contacted the receptionist. They apologized for the inconvenience and immediately sent a technician to my room and voila! These problems were immediately fixed and I was able to rest comfortably for 4 days 3 nights at Grandmas Plus Hotel Legian. P. S.(perhaps those who are not used to the sound of vehicles noises from outside will be disturbed, but thanks to all the excellent service from this hotel, I didn't even have time to feel disappointed about it).

How to Get There

Getting to Legian is convenient, thanks to the island's well-connected transportation system.

By Air

The Ngurah Rai International Airport, also known as Denpasar International Airport, is the main gateway to Bali. Located just a short distance from Legian, the airport serves both domestic and international flights. Upon arrival, you can easily find taxis or arrange airport transfers to take you directly to your hotel in Legian. The journey from the airport to Legian typically takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

By Land

If you're already in Bali, reaching Legian by land is a breeze. The island offers an extensive road network that connects different regions. You can hire a private driver, take a taxi, or opt for a shared shuttle service to travel from popular areas like Kuta, Seminyak, or Ubud to Legian. The road journey allows you to soak in the picturesque scenery of Bali and enjoy the island's vibrant atmosphere.

By Public Transportation

Bali also has public transportation options, such as buses and vans, that connect various destinations. Public buses are an economical choice, but they may have limited schedules and stops. Vans or minibusses, commonly known as "bemos," are another option for getting around the island. They are a popular choice among locals and budget-conscious travelers. However, keep in mind that public transportation may not always offer door-to-door service, so you may need to walk or take a short taxi ride to reach your hotel in Legian.

Getting Around

Navigating Legian and exploring its surroundings is relatively easy, thanks to the availability of various transportation options.

Renting a Scooter

Renting a scooter is a popular and convenient way to get around Legian. It gives you the freedom to explore the area at your own pace and discover hidden gems along the way. Several rental shops offer scooters for daily or weekly rental, and the process is relatively straightforward. Just ensure you have a valid international driver's license and wear a helmet for your safety.

Taxi Services

Taxis are readily available in Legian, offering a hassle-free mode of transportation. You can easily flag down a taxi on the street or use ride-hailing apps like Grab to book a cab. Make sure the meter is turned on or agree on a fare before starting your journey. Taxis are convenient for shorter distances or when you prefer not to navigate the busy streets on your own.

Ride-Hailing Apps

Ride-hailing apps like Grab and Gojek are popular in Bali and offer reliable transportation services. Simply download the app, register, and book a car or motorcycle taxi whenever you need a ride. These apps provide upfront pricing, cashless payments, and the ability to track your driver's location. They are convenient for longer distances or when you need to travel with comfort and ease.

Positives: close to Jalan Legian, short walk to the beach, lots of restaurants nearby. Has rooftop pall, good buffet breakfast (although food not always warm or hot). Room was spacious although the bathroom is a bit squashed. WiFi was pretty good. AC was nice and clold however it was leaking water on the floor and looked like it needed cleaning as s the filters were dirty. Negative: as mentioned the AC needed to be cleaned, bathroom on small side, there was a plug socket hanging off the wall. One of our biggest complaints is the hot water, in 4 days we only had hot water 1 time, the other times the hottest we got was lukewarm, their water heating system is not adequate enough for the size of the hotel, doesn't provide enough hot water for all guests to have. The location is good however as it's on a one-way road the traffic can be very bad. The TV's are a bit old, still flat screen but old and the audio not good, even when putting volume loud it's not clear even though it's loud, maybe time to switch to smart TVs.

Me and my friend all of sudden got Claustrophobia after entering the room. It was wet and damp. They only have a very room with just a tiny window that 's just so horrible. My friend suddenly couldn't breathe however the only good thing about this hotel was they have quite friendly staff. But at the end we decided to move and find another hotel.
