I booked a couple cabin for the Hanoi to Sapa sleeper bus, and I have mixed feelings about the experience. The couple bed is located on the lower bunk, but unfortunately, it’s not comfortable for two people. In hindsight, I regret not booking two single cabins instead. The beds resembled something you’d find in a budget motel.
Food isn’t allowed on board, but this wasn’t an issue since the bus made two stops where you could grab something to eat. You have to take off your shoes before boarding, but they do provide slippers. However, the overall service left a lot to be desired—there was no one to assist passengers, and the driver didn’t speak a word of English. If you encounter any issues, you’re on your own.
One major downside was the lack of enforcement of quiet time. A fellow passenger was loudly watching soccer on his phone, which was incredibly disruptive. Additionally, despite it being winter, the bus AC was off, and the cabin became uncomfortably hot. Complaining wasn’t an option since the driver couldn’t communicate in English.
I had booked a round trip but decided not to take the same bus back to Hanoi and opted for a different company instead. Overall, while the bus might be an affordable option, the lack of comfort, communication, and proper rules made it an unpleasant experience. I would recommend exploring other bus companies for a better trip.
