Koh Mook is an island located in Trang Province, situated in southern Thailand. Trang is a vast region just south of Krabi, extending along a stretch of the Andaman Sea coast and reaching into the mainland. It begins right after the end of Koh Lanta, making it an ideal spot to combine a visit to Koh Mook with a trip to one of our other favorite islands. The provincial capital, also named Trang, features an airport (Trang Airport) that offers regular flights to Bangkok. Trang Province is home to numerous islands, including inhabited ones like Koh Mook, Koh Ngai, Koh Kradan, Koh Sukon, and Koh Libong. To reach Koh Mook from the mainland, a 15-minute longtail boat ride from Khuan Tung Ku Pier is required.

The high seasons for the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand differ. As Koh Mook is situated on the west coast of Thailand in the Andaman Sea, the ideal time to visit is from December to April, similar to Phuket and Krabi. During this period, you can expect clear skies, sunny weather, and slightly cooler temperatures. From April to June, temperatures on Koh Mook can become quite high and uncomfortable. For the rest of the year, until November or December, the island experiences increased rainfall and overcast conditions. During the off-season, from May to October, there are fewer ferries and speedboats operating, and the sea can be rough, which often limits the number of available excursions. However, this period also brings lower prices and a more tranquil atmosphere.

While some might suggest spending just two to three days on Koh Mook, people usually opt for a week to fully explore and create detailed guides—plus, you can enjoy a leisurely pace. For most visitors, however, three to four days is sufficient to experience the island and still have some downtime. Koh Mook is relatively small and not overflowing with activities, which is part of its charm.

There are two main routes to travel from Bangkok to Koh Mook. The first option is to fly from Don Mueang (DMK) to Trang Airport (TST), then take a transfer to Hat Yao Pier and continue to Koh Mook by speedboat or longtail boat. Alternatively, you can fly to Krabi, take a transfer to Koh Lanta, and catch a speedboat from Saladan Pier to Koh Mook. If you're flying in, Trang Airport is the closest to Koh Mook. It’s about an hour’s drive from the airport to either Hat Yao Pier or Khuan Tung Ku Pier, where you can catch a longtail boat to Koh Mook. You can buy tickets at the airport’s ticket booths or book online. You also have the option for a private longtail boat, which is more cost-effective for a group of three compared to a scheduled service. This arrangement allowed you to choose your departure time to fit your flight schedule.

Ferries to Koh Mook are available from popular tourist spots in the north of the island, including Ao Nang, Koh Lanta, Phuket and Phi Phi. You can book these ferries a day or two in advance. Alternatively, you can take a speedboat from Koh Lanta to Koh Mook as an alternative. Prices start from 900 baht per person. There are also ferry services from the south, with the most popular route being from Koh Lipe, which is located near the Malaysian border.
