Cycling used to not be a favourite among Singaporeans, considering that Singapore was not a bicycle-friendly city and there were not many cycle paths in Singapore. However, since the pandemic, Singaporeans are cycling more often than before. Some people cycle to keep fit. Others cycle for leisure while enjoying the view or taking a historical tour.

Singapore has transformed into a cyclist's paradise with its extensive network of cycle paths and bike parks designed for leisure and recreation. Cycling in Singapore offers a delightful experience as you navigate routes that are not only well-maintained but also incredibly scenic.

The Cycling Path Networks (CPNs) have introduced an infrastructure design aimed at providing a safe and conducive environment for active mobility users of various ages and skill levels to travel around the city more easily and comfortably.

At the national level, there are currently 525 km of cycling paths, and CPNs will still expand the cycling path network to around 1,300 km by 2030. These cycling paths will connect daily travellers from home to MRT stations, bus interchanges, as well as shopping centres and schools nearest.

Currently, CPNs have a network of cycling paths in nine HDB towns and will build more in six towns as well as expand existing CPNs in Ang Mo Kio and Tampines by 2024. There will be additional routes in Tampines that connect to neighbouring towns and Changi Business Park.

Improving east-west inter-town cycling connectivity will also be implemented by connecting Queenstown to the city via the Alexandra Park Connector and connecting Geylang to the city via the Geylang Park Connector. To facilitate cycling in the Central Area, CPNs will provide more cycling lanes to connect to and from MRT stations and bus stops in the city.

There are many choices of bicycle shops in Singapore. Some of these places can be an option for buying a bicycle according to your goals and budget:

Local Bike Shop (LBS): A bike shop that is nearby and perhaps still conventional. The downside may be that there isn't much stock, but it has a family touch.
Chain Retailers: Advantage in large selection and specific discount programmes.
Specialty Stores: Treknology3 or Cycle Project Store are several stores that cater to cyclists looking for high-end models or specific brands. By digging deeper into your pockets, you can get commensurate quality and exclusivity.
Used Bikes: Even though you can get good things at cheaper prices, you have to be more careful when buying a used bike. Check clearly, and ask for details more clearly.
Sharing Bikes: You can also use a sharing bike application such as SG Bike, Hello Ride, or Anywheel.
