Holiday Inn Express MELBOURNE SOUTHBANK, an IHG Hotel

The hotel was in a great location for going to the Australian Open and other tours that we took. The buffet breakfast was great, except you had to pay for decaf coffee which doesn't seem fair with regular coffee available and free. The room was good but the bathroom configuration was awful. It is very small and not user friendly for two people. Otherwise the hotel was good.

Location was excellent and convenient and stay had general feel good about it. Staff in all areas were very helpful and always available

Overall a good stay.

We are local and had a show at Crown so we decided to stay overnight at the hotel. It was fantastic, so convenient, so comfortable and we can't wait to stay there next time. Also being a member, they gave us a 1.30pm check out instead of 10am. That was very much appreciated.

Check in was horrendous, not enough staff on and very long queue, Breakfast was good , Very understaffed for a busy weekend with a full hotel .

Efficient

Hot Breakfast doesn’t really cater to vegetarians unless you love eating eggs (which I don’t eat) my options were toast and pastries.

Stayed bin room 1014 10th floor. Wardrobe bad design. Couldn't hang my wife's long dress in it as it barely was capable of hanging my shirts and trousers. The weird bench below the TV.?? No dresser and no drawers to store smalls. The bathroom! A wet room...with a "Shower Curtain" Really!? The sink...no room to place my few items never mind my wife's collection of toiletries. On the plus side a range of soaps supplied for washing and showering. Back to the bedroom. The fridge. 3 small milks to make a cup of tea. No bottle of water something which we have grown accustomed to finding in other hotels. Breakfast was OK however food was warm and not hot and that hot water dispenser between the two coffee machines. Nightmare! Myself and an american lady almost got roasted with overflow,

Average stay overall. Bed wasn’t to our liking but that is an individual thing. Breakfast was ok but absolutely chaotic dining area. No observed coordination from staff which created chaos. No control of entry of guests resulting in too many people which flowed into shortage of food, plates & cutlery…and many people walking around with food & nowhere to sit. Staff were functional but not welcoming at reception.

The hotel is conveniently located close to Southbank and the VIC Arts Centre, 15-20 minutes walk to Melbourne Park. We had a lovely view over the gardens from our twin room on level 18. The room was reasonably small but as expected with twin single beds placed very close together. The beds were comfortable apart from a plastic-topped pillow top on the mattress that was reminiscent of a hospital bed and noticeable when you moved around. Shower pressure was reasonable but the bathroom, which was separated from the bedroom area by frosted, patterned, translucent glass, had an unusual design with one door used to close off either the entire room or just the shower. It was good to have a tiled entry for wet umbrellas and an open wardrobe with room for a suitcase at the base, as well as a kettle in the room. The breakfast buffet of hot and cold offerings was reasonable but you need to get there before 9 am if you want a full selection of items.

Love this property. Second time staying and will definitely be back again. Parking and breaky for $1 from Wotif makes it super affordable too. Our kids loved the breaky and we did too! Highly recommend.

The girl at the check in desk on NYE was fabulous as she was trying to do everything on her own, as well as the bar counter. More staff were really needed. Mark, the breakfast manager was fabulous, friendly and extremely helpful. The bathroom doors in the hotel rooms freaked me out that they automatically would close. Not sure if that is something for handicapped guests but it made me very uncomfortable. Great location. Would stay again. Thx

Fantastic location, we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. The room was smallish but very clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The free buffet breakfast and parking made our stay very affordable and great value for money.

Excellent location. The complimentary parking and breakfast are a definite plus. Staff are friendly and happy to help but the limited number meant waiting around for services.
