The only reason I’m rating them 3 stars is because of the laundry service situation they put me in. I called room service to ask them to take care of a small bag of laundry. They said okay, and didn’t mention that there would be a charge. To my surprise the next day, I got a bill for a shocking 26,000 yen (170 US dollars). An enormous charge for a small bag of laundry. I asked the staff if they could do anything about the charge, to at least lessen it, because I wasn’t budgeting for an expense like this. The staff seemed to either not understand or pretend not to understand what I was asking them. So I was forced to pay the bill.
All things considered, it is a lovely hotel.

Really big resort with lots of staff on hand to assist. Good location but difficult to navigate to local transportation. Might have been because it was Xmas holidays but most of the shops in the resort were closed which was a shame.

I received the 4000¥ credit for food, but onsite restaurants are expensive. I am also beginning to believe that Japanese branded hotels don’t give any room upgrades. The New Otani is a huge property with actually 3 hotels, so it makes access to Tokyo Metro a bit of a hike, and quite far from convenience stores. There are many stores in the shopping arcade, but they are for very pricey goods. I had a room with a direct view of Mt Fuji (a few floors higher would have been better). All in all it was a very good 5-night stay

We liked the central location and the peacefulness of park location. The hotel needs updating and renovation. The staff at the two restaurants are passive aggressive individuals feigning professionalism. We were generally disappointed with the service. The food at the Satsuki was excellent, while the food at the Garden Cafe was stale and borderline inedible. We decided to skip eating at the Tower Restaurant, given the aforementioned experience. Very, very average experience all-around. Expected much more, given the reputation from the yesteryears.

Rm 716, Bath vent was all dusty, I cleaned it. 1 lounger chair by window has a big stain on the seat. Chair by front door, telephone desk is concaved. Unable to sit nicely. Aloha.

The free room upgrade wasn't available, but I wasn't disappointed. I'm used to it. Many hotels offer a complimentary room upgrade, but I believe it's just a lure to attract customers. They always say, "Sorry, we don't have available rooms." In any case, the view from the room in this hotel was incredible. The window was huge, from floor to ceiling, giving me a sense of openness. I saw Tokyo Tower, Mt. Fuji, the Japanese garden of the hotel, and the state guest house from the room.
