The check in was quick, but however the room wasn’t as great as I thought to be. Firstly, the cleanliness of the room is below expectation. Soap stains, hairs of previous staycayer and bl**dstain can be found. Luckily it was just a day staycation. Do look through the picture for evidence. Secondly the room allocation was a big disappointment, went with my fiancé and was given a twin bed room and had to sleep separately. Thirdly, the sound proofing was so bad that we can hear clearly our neighbours laughing,television, using of hairdryer at 3am and even their snoring. How bad can it be? These totally disrupt our whole night of rest. Suspected the room given was a connecting room but the door was locked. The sound proofing is totally poor to an extend beyond words. Lastly, the pathetic fridge seems to be there to do a staycay too. Totally useless and on relaxation mode because it just doesn’t work and it is not cold at all. The room seems to be colder than the fridge itself. The towel looks so dirty and have some sort of greyish patches of stains. Making me think thrice before using it.

Made a last-minute booking and was happy to get the last available room. Requested for 1 large bed but got 2 separated singles. Aircon was centralized and definitely wasn't cold enough-I was told I could tell the receptionist for individual room temperature adjustment but ain't nobody got time for that. The beds here were as hard as a rock! Zero comforts and marginally better than sleeping on the floor. Stayed here for 4D3N and never got my room made up once even though I requested it every day. Imagine my utter disappointment when I came back to the room from a long day! To make matters worse, the towels also took ages to dry from a bath because the room always felt moist from the lack of direct ventilation. Coupled with no room service/towel replacement, we ended up just using damp towels again for subsequent nights. The late-night trip down to the reception for dry towels was far too arduous for a tired and irritable soul. The fridge was not cold, walls were hollow partitions so I could hear everything and felt slightly threatened by how loud and close my neighbors were. The room floor was non carpeted and felt far too grimy to walk barefooted on; You'd definitely end up with grey feet to go to bed with. The iron provided was awful, it never got hot enough even on the hottest settings so my clothes remained crumpled.

There are cons and pros to this hotel. Pros: Friendly staff and the room is clean. Cons: There's a lady, I believe she's a manager in that hotel. She's a bit arrogant and pushy as in check-out time. Check-out time is at 12pm, and I requested at 1 pm due to I've checked in slightly late. In the morning before I check out I requested again to checking out 1.30-2 pm and I don't mind paying extra charges. But she rejects the request and keeps pestering me to check out early and give me 10-15 minutes to pack my things. I still tell her I don't mind paying even she charge me $ 20 for every extra hour. She still rejects my request and will charge $ 20 extra if I late more than 10 minutes. The most annoying part, she keeps calling the room to pester my partner and me to check out as they have an expecting guest at 2 pm. The point is now, I didn't see there's a crowd or high demand for that hotel or sold out in any booking apps. If that so, its understandable if it is on weekends and high demand customer. Its not a first time I experience this in Populous hotel. The first time happen she even came up to my room and tell us to pay extra charges for $ 20 for every extra hour which I don't mind paying. When we hand over the keys, she asked the cleaner to check our room, my partner and I were shocked as well didn't experience this before as we know if any damage or faulty in the room will be charged on our card. So we give feedback to her that if we check out late we don't mind paying but just don't pester us because it's not an appropriate manner. But she keeps being so defensive, gives an excuse and does not apologize that being rude and pester us. As a hotel manager, you can't manage to handle any situation and told if another hotel can blacklist a hotel guest but she didn't want to do so. She doesn't charge us when we hand over the keys, but why does she keep pestering and keep telling us that will be charge? She told my partner if we were not happy with their service, we can visit another hotel instead. End of the conversation she told us we can leave. This is what we called customer service frontline? What I described here is defensive, high tone voice, rude, no apology for pestering and told customers to visit another hotel. The most worst service that I ever visit. Even budget hotel their service is better.

Room was tiny not like the pictures. Aircon is centralised at 16 degrees so you can’t off or change temperature. My door has water leaking for the whole period. Room was at level 2, directly opposite the restaurant so I can hear everyone talking and slamming the door the whole day. Toiletries stored below the sink are wet from the leak from sink too

Pros: 1. Great location to Bugis (2 shopping centres and Bugis Street), Haji lane (bars), Liang Seah Street (China hotpot, grilled fished, desserts) 2. Staff were friendly and efficient 3. Has a rain shower Cons: 1. Had issues with the booking so we ended up staying at the hotel twice. App was prompt to resolve the issue. 2. We chosen to have a staycation at Populous Hotel as the price was affordable and we wanted to celebrate our anniversary together. The rooms on the website and the gallery looked really bright and spacious. However, we were disappointed to see that the room was extremely cramped and small. The first time we stayed in the standard room (no window #513) - spacious room but the smallest bathroom ever. The glass panels separating the bathroom and toilet made it even more cramp. There are no place to put the shampoo and soap. Layout was similar to the adjacent Hotel 81 but it cost more ($100 online and $75 using the last minute deal on the hotel website). The second time we stayed in the Standard Queen Room (with windows #401). The room was even smaller than the previous but the bathroom was slightly more spacious. However, the view was a construction site and the Hotel 81 signage. 2. Both times, there were issues with the air-conditioning. It was blasting cold but towards the middle of the night it was really warm and stuffy. Temperature could only be adjusted from the front desk too. Thus, the sleep was uncomfortable. 3. The walls are extremely thin and non-sound proofed. With or without windows in the rooms, you would be able to hear the sound of the construction site, cars zooming last on the road, other guests talking and laughing loudly. My partner and I are pretty heavy sleepers and yet we were still woken up by the loud noise. Unfortunately, on our second stay, there were two groups of people staying in the two rooms adjacent to ours. They were screaming, shouting, laughing and singing throughout the whole night. By 5am, I was so frustrated and called the front desk and luckily the noise level went down immediately with the front desk intervention. However, we were still kept up for another hour due to the busy roads (yes at 5am) before we were able to sleep. 4. We booked our stay from 23-24April. Wi-Fi was extremely slow and my partner who was doing some work on the laptop had to go down to the front desk and even to the bus stop outside the hotel to load some documents. Moreover, we were not able to access the internet after midnight because the system deem that we are checking out on 24 April and hence we did not have access to the Wi-Fi? We were due to check out at 12pm on 24 April but to have the Wi-Fi be cut off at 12am seemed ridiculous to say the least. The front desk agent was quick to resolved the problem however, it was done by giving us the Wi-Fi password of the adjacent room? 5. Pillows are extremely soft. Once you lie on it, the pillow will deflate so much that it feels like you're sleeping on the mattress. The staff were also prompt to provide extra pillows upon request but it was still too soft? The linen and duvet also felt scratchy and slightly itchy so I am not sure if there are bed bugs? 6. Populous's furniture and in room amenities are slightly nicer with lamination but it was probably the same furniture (TV, mini bar etc). Wear and tear could be seen everywhere and dust was also in sight on every surface. Mini bar in the room was barely working on both our stays there. It was barely able to keep our mineral water cold. Ice cream melted like crazy too. 7. No amenities. Just a basic room and an in-house restaurant. We did not dine in there but it seemed pretty decent with large variety of western and local dishes. Affordable prices too. Overall, we will not be staying in this hotel anymore. Even with Epic Sale or Brand's own last minute sale, we were not able to justify the price for what we have experienced there on both our stays. The room standard and layout were similar to other Hotel (now Ibis Budget) just beside this hotel. Their prices are 50% cheaper. We have stayed in those hotels before so you're paying for a higher price for a lower quality. 😰

Cleanliness need to improve. So noisy hotel...you can hear clearly kid crying or people walking inside your room. Housekeeping didn’t close properly our room after cleaning and left the door open a hole day. After I approach the front office they didn’t apologize first but asking me if anything missing from my room so dispointed. All the staff is not friendly. Room to small and bed its hard. Will never comeback this hotel again!
