Information About Airlangga Train
Airlangga Train (known as KA Airlangga in Indonesian) is a train option between Jakarta and Surabaya. It is a cost-effective alternative for travelers, especially backpackers or those seeking affordable transportation.
Airlangga Train is a relatively new train launched on October 1, 2021, at Pasar Senen Station. Agung Yunanto, the Director of Human Resources and General Affairs of KAI, and Danto Restyawan, the Director General of Railways, led the launch event. This train replaces KA Maharani (Maharani Train) and Tegal Express.
The name "Airlangga" is inspired by the founding king of the Kahuripan Kingdom in East Java, King Airlangga. King Airlangga ruled Kahuripan from 1009 to 1042 AD. The Kahuripan Kingdom was eventually divided into two kingdoms, Jenggala Kingdom and the Kediri Kingdom, for his two sons.
Kereta Api Airlangga is categorized as a PSO (Public Service Obligation) train, which makes its fares affordable. This categorization is under the assignment from the Ministry of Transportation through letter No. KA.005/1/25/K2/DJKA/2021. The train offers lower fares than regular trains because it receives subsidies from the government.
