Argo Bromo Anggrek Train
Argo Bromo Anggrek is the highest executive and luxury class transportation service presented by PT. KAI as the pride of Surabaya Operational Area 8. This train serves the Jakarta-Surabaya route with the main stop at Gambir Station (Jakarta) and Pasar Turi Station (Surabaya). Along the journey from Jakarta to Surabaya, Argo Bromo Anggrek train will only stop at four stations, namely Cirebon Station, Pekalongan Station (morning train only), Semarang Tawang Station, and Jatinegara Station (especially Surabaya-Jakarta department).
Every day, Argo Bromo Anggrek train serves Jakarta-Surabaya trip twice, back and forth. The morning train departs from Gambir at 09.30 and Surabaya at 08.00. As for the night train, Argo Bromo Anggrek Train departs from Gambir at 21.30 and Surabaya at 20.00. Ticket rates for these routes range from 375.000 IDR-485.000 IDR per passenger, depending on the seating position, subclasses, and what day the trip is. For closer routes (e.g. Surabaya-Semarang, Gambir-Cirebon, Gambir-Semarang, and Pekalongan-Semarang), the ticket’s fares are cheaper, ranging from 285.000 IDR-365.000 IDR.
Argo Bromo Anggrek Train covers a distance of 725 km within 9 hours. This speed is among the fastest, compared to other trains that take up to 10-15 hours for the same route. Every day, Argo Bromo Anggrek train carries an average of 1,600 passengers.
In a series of trains, Argo Bromo Anggrek consists of 7-9 executive trains, one dining train, and one generator train. The facilities in the Argo executive trains are among the most luxurious in its class. Each passenger can enjoy comfortable, rotatable seating that also has an adjustable backrest. In addition, there are also footrests, reading lamps, electric plugs, cushions, blankets, and folding tables on each seat. Each passenger gate is also equipped with air conditioning, LCD TV, and toilet. Not only that, Argo Bromo Anggrek also provide entertainment services for its passengers. The Origin of Its Name
Argo Bromo Anggrek took its name from Bromo Mountain located in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java. The mountain has a height of 2,392 meters and is well known for its high cultural and religious values. The name “Anggrek” is the legacy of the previous brand name.
Special Train Series
Argo Bromo Anggrek is known as special train series, Bogie K9. Bogie K9 is a locomotive with rubber spring as the main suspension and air spring as the secondary suspension. The technology ensures that the train runs smoother, faster, and with the comfortable atmosphere inside. The speed of this train is said to reach 140 km per hour.
Train History
Argo Bromo Anggrek has officially operated since 31st July 1995 with the name Argo Bromo JS-950. The name implies a specific meaning, namely JS (Jakarta-Surabaya), 9 (9 hours travel time), and 50 (its launching coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence).
Livery Development
Argo Bromo Anggrek train had experienced several changes to improve its service. The Go Green livery train was presented in 2011 as a refinement of the K9 Re-Engineering train. The Go Green trains offer better interiors and exteriors, as well as environmentally friendly toilets. In 2015, Argo Bromo Anggrek underwent another improvement by using Airline/Livery agreement. The newest development was in 2016, where the Argo Bromo Anggrek used the New Image 2016 Executive Train. The New Image 2016 is equipped with modified features, window curtains, and a foldable footrest.
