Gumarang Train
The Indonesian Railways Company presents Gumarang train as its mixed-class railway service. The train especially operates in the corridors of Pasar Senen Jakarta and Surabaya Pasar Turi stations. Managed under the Regional Operations I Jakarta, the Gumarang train serves a round trip of intercity travel once a day. With about 560 kilometers, the travel time of Gumarang train in a one-way trip is 11 hours, at an average speed of 70-100 kilometers per hour.
Every day, the train departs at 15:45 from Pasar Senen station in Jakarta to arrive in Surabaya Pasar Turi Station around 03:00. On the other hand, the Gumarang train departs from Surabaya Pasar Turi Station at 15:30 to arrive at Pasar Senen station in Jakarta approximately at 02:30. On this route, the Gumarang train will pass through along the North Coast of Java which has beautiful scenery. Some stopover stations include the Cirebon, Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang, Cepu, Bojonegoro, and the Lamongan railway station.
Usually, some mixed-class trains in Jakarta will depart from Jakarta Kota Station and Gambir Station. However, the Gumarang train is the only mixed class that has departure point at Pasar Senen Jakarta Station. In one trip, the Gumarang train can transport more than 550 passengers of the executive, business, and economy class. By referring to the statistical data, the Gumarang train has recorded in transporting to a total of 3,300 passengers per day.
The Gumarang train tickets are available at the various price range. This variation depends on the class of the train, the train subclass, the booking period, as well as the travel time. For the economy class, ticket prices range from Rp175.000 to Rp220.000. For the business class, Gumarang train tickets are available in the lowest price range of Rp250.000 to the most expensive rate of Rp340.000. As for the executive class, the price of the train tickets is around Rp355.000 to Rp465.000 per passenger. Especially for a shorter route, such as Jakarta-Cirebon, Gumarang train tickets are available in a variety of classes with prices ranging from Rp135.000 to Rp350.000.

The Origin of Name
There are two versions of stories that tell about the origin of the name Gumarang. First, it is taken from Gumarang, the brave forest bull. On the other hand, some people are saying that the name of Gumarang comes from the name of a horse that is existed in the legend of Minangkabau, entitled Cindua Mato.
The History of The Trains
The Gumarang train was initially operated on May 20, 2001. It is said that this train is used to have the name of the Jayabaya Utara train, with a focus to serve the business class passengers only. Nowadays, as one of the trains that serve three classes in its train set, the Gumarang train is one of the most popular railway transportations.
The Train Set
In its operational activity to this day, the Gumarang train uses four types of locomotives, namely the CC201, CC203, CC204, and CC206. In one of its train set, Gumarang train is transporting with one locomotive car, one dining car, one power car, one baggage car (cargo/parcel), two economy AC class wagons, three business class wagons with air conditioner, and three regular Executive class train wagons. One economic train has 104 seats, while one business class train has 64 seats, and the executive class train has 50 passenger seats. As a mixed class train, amenities available in all classes of Gumarang include at least two air conditioning units, toilets, luggage, electrical sockets, and seat upholstered in leather or sofa facilities.
