Interesting Information about Harina Train
The Origin of the Name
Harina is a word from Sansekerta language, meaning “deer”. Deer is one of the lively animals that runs very fast and is considered having similar characteristics as Harina Train.
Train History
Harina Train prime operation was launched on Mei 20th 2003, using PT.INKA new train. At the initial launch, the train was still operating under Semarang Operational Area. The train was originally the successor of Mahesa Train which was serving Bandung-Semarang route. Mahesa Train was only operating for a short time because its route was not efficient and thus did not get positive responses from the passengers. Based on the Mahesa Train evaluation results, PT.KAI launched Harina Train, with a more efficient itinerary. On 2011, PT.KAI added a morning schedule on Harina Train timetable, but only going on for about 7 months because of the low occupancy. Entering March 2014, Harina Train Night and Morning timetable was rolled into one schedule and the route was elongated into Pasar Turi Surabaya Station.
Unique Itinerary
Harina Train is considered to have a unique route. The train does not passing the east of Bandung city as normally do by Argo Wilis Train, Turangga Train, and Mutiara Selatan Train. Instead of traversing the east side via Tasikmalaya, Banjar, Kroya, Kutoarjo, Yogyakarta, Solo, Madiun, Kertosono, Jombang, Mojokerto, and arrived at Gubeng; Harina Train passes through the west side via Cikampek. From Cikampek Station, the Harina Train locomotive will make a U-turn to the east, and then pass through Cirebon, Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang, Ngrombo, Cepu, Bojonegoro, Lamongan, and the journey ends at Pasar Turi Surabaya Station. With this unique itinerary, Harina Train was going backward when going Cikampek-Bandung route.
