Unique Facts About Jatibarang Station
1. There's a Trail That's Now Just a Memory
Jatibarang Station, like many other colonial stations, has its own story. This station was once a connecting point for the lines to Jakarta, Indramayu, Balongan, and Cirebon.
But now the rail line to Indramayu and Balongan is only a memory because it is no longer active. Some of its relics in the form of rails and bridges still remain, only now increasingly eroded due to development around them.
2. There is a Teak Stake Marking the Visit of Ir. Soekarno
Jatibarang Station was actually once the site of a speech by Indonesia's first president, Ir. Soekarno. He stopped at this station when he was about to go to Cirebon and took the time to make a short speech.Â
In his speech, Soekarno encouraged the Indramayu Homeland Defense (Peta) troops who were based in Bulak Village, Jatibarang. Unfortunately, the teak patok now receives less attention because few people know its existence. Nevertheless, the wooden stakes that are more than 70 years old still stand firmly.
