Interesting Information about Kertajaya Train
The History of Kertajaya Train
Kertajaya Train was commonly known as Gaya Baru Malam Utara Train and operated from 1978 to 2002. As the name changed, Kertajaya Train started to take Economy Class passenger cars, some of which are not air conditioned.
At the beginning of 2013, Kertajaya Train began to operate Economy Class with air-conditioned cars. On 4th December of 2015, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (persero) launched additional train with 14 units of Economy Class. However, since April 1st 2016, the new unit stopped operating and was used as a regular train instead.
The Longest Train Series
Kertajaya is one of the longest train series in Indonesia, especially for the passenger car. The long series was first introduced when Kertajaya used additional train, but then changed into a regular train on 1st April of 2016.
The series consists of one Locomotive CC206, one Business Class car, one buffet car, and fourteen Economy Class cars. With these cars, Kertajaya Train can carry up to 1.484 passengers. And because of the long series, the train is commonly called as Keranjang (acronym for Kereta Panjang—Keranjang also means basket in Indonesian).
