Merak Train or commonly known as Commuter Line Merak is a commuter train service operated by KAI Commuter, serving the commuting route Rangkasbitung Station-Merak. The train reoperated on April 1, 2017 after previously stopping its service. On average, the train takes up to 2 hours on its route. It’s considered one of the most favorite transportation modes for people commuting to Rangkasbitung and Tanah Abang regularly.
If you want to take a train to Jakarta, you can take KRL Green Line. The route is shown in green in the KRL Commuter Line roadmap. Previously, there was another train serving the Angke-Merak Road named Banten Ekspres (Patas Merak). However, since Lin Rangkasbitung began to operate the same time the Train Trip Chart (Gapeka) was applied, Banten Ekspres Train was officially retired, making Merak Train the only train serving the commuting route Merak-Rangkasbitung.
As per October 1, 2020, Local Train Merak which was previously under PT KAI, now officially operates under the management of KAI Commuter after getting its permit from the Ministry of Transportation on June 3, 2020.
Merak Train (KA Merak) only provides economy class. In total, there are 106 seats available which comprises 2-3 front-facing, non-reclining seats. You will not find other facilities like a dining car in this train.
