When you pay for a luxury room, you expect to have everything in working order, as well as basic fundamentals, but unfortunately this place doesn’t. TVs did not work. WiFi would not work so tv wouldn’t work. Radiators constantly sound like they are half empty and making a noise. Room service disturbed us to ask if we had a magazine in our room, but never fixed the issue. No mirror on the vanity desk. No mirror close to a mains socket and therefore unable to dry or straighten hair. Coffee table leave hinges don’t support any weight and everything slips off. No plug in sink

Lovely quirky old building and interiors. Luxury suite was very large and spacious. Loved it! so much better than the generic modern rubbish.

Great location when visiting Guildford, located in the heart of the town. We travelled by train so the parking wasn’t an issue. However there is car parks a short walk away.

Fabulous room, we had a suite in the old part of the hotel. There was a separate sitting room, large bedroom with superking four poster. The bathroom was beautiful and very well designed. The room was warm and comfortable. The hotel is situated in central Guildford and it is easy to walk to most venues in the town. The only downside is that the hotel has no parking and although you can park on the street in the evening there is no access during the day for unloading/loading luggage.

We booked the room in advance and purposely booked the room with the kitchenette room as we have a 10 week old baby. When we arrived at the property we were walked to our room which couldn’t be any further away. Up and down stairs then finally up two more flight of stairs. This was very tiring especially having a pram. We were offered to leave the pram in the main hall, but one, it was being used as her bed and two, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving a £1000 pram in reception. Upon entering the room, we realised there was no kitchenette. I asked at reception and I was informed that that room is booked out and has been for a month. Why was I able to book this room months ago then? I had to ask for a fridge and microwave so we were able to keep the milk cold and bottles sterilised. Hence why we booked the kitchenette bedroom. The room we had really wasn’t up to the value we paid. No plug for the sink, the tv barely had any channels and the toilet once flushed took forever to refill. We were surprised later in the evening to realise other members of our family had Nespresso machines and bath robes in their rooms. We were left pretty deflated from what was supposed to be a relaxing night stay. I have been asked to forward my issues into the hotel also, but I would like some feedback from yourselves also on this issue.

Overall the hotel is great. No doubt… BUT an alarm went off at 8am on the Sunday morning (!!!) not only that but it kept stopping, then coming back on, again…and again over the course of about 20mins. So really was NOT happy about that at all!!

The check in staff were so welcoming and friendly. We had a lovely room but there was quite a bit of noise from the street as there are single glazed windows.

Quirky Hotel. Historic. However, it feels somewhat 'unloved'. Parts of the Hotel don't belong to the Hotel itself. For example, the bar is a cabaret/private party venue and the restaurant (Bills) is another business. The private party venue, 'The Fallen Angel' is very noisy, so ensure you request a room a way from that if you want some peace and quiet. The Hotel is a rabbit warren, with a lot of steps to climb if you are in some rooms. We were in 'Lord Byron' room. Lovely and big, a suite on the 3rd floor. 62 steps from the room to reception. 3 or 4 flights of stairs to climb, no lifts. The room itself lacked basic amenities. No wifi, television had very limited channels, only BBC1 and 2. No phone to call front desk or organise a wake up call. No mirrors anywhere except the bathroom, no fridge, limited tea and coffee, water. We had to ask for more. No 'special' touches.. ie, no flowers, fruit, chocolates. The staff were ok, friendly, but fairly ineffective. They just seem to sit on the front desk and do not have much to offer in resolving anything. Felt sorry for the young lugging a massive suitcase up tge stairs on her own, surely a Health & Safety issue? Not sure if we would stay here again. Best thing about this Hotel, is the location.
