Kuala Selangor was the old royal capital of Selangor prior to Klang, Kuala Lumpur and later to Shah Alam. In Malay language, ‘kuala’ means river mouth and Kuala Selangor eventually is a small town where the Selangor River meets the sea. Kuala Selangor has had settlements from as early as the 16th century, ruled under the Malacca Empire.
Kuala Selangor is a district located in Selangor, Malaysia about 50 km north of Klang and about 70 km from Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Selangor consists of nine sub-districts namely, Api-api, Bestari Jaya, Hujong Permatang, Hulu Tinggi, Ijok, Jeram, Kuala Selangor town, Pasangan and Tanjung Karang.
Kuala Selangor town is usually accessed using the Malaysia Federal Route 5. The Kuala Lumpur – Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR) highway linked Ijok in Kuala Selangor with Templer in Rawang. Kuala Selangor is also connected with Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE) to Shah Alam while the North-South Expressway Central Link connected it with the northern Peninsular Malaysia.
Melawati Hill in Kuala Selangor is where the fort, lighthouse, wells, graves and cannons of historical remains are situated. Melawati Hill is also one of the new moon watching spot for the date determination of Islamic calendar for the Ramadhan fasting month and the Syawal festive celebration day.

Kuala Selangor Nature Park is a sanctuary for many different types of flora and fauna usually found in mudflats and mangroves. Fireflies produce “cold light” to attract mates or prey. Other exciting night tour is the Sky Mirror watching that only occurs during the 1st and 15th of a Lunar month, as well as 4 days before and after these dates. Sky Mirror watching offers an exciting mirror-like reflection of the sky and it is also known as the Salar de Uyuni of Malaysia since it is quite similar to the natural wonder happening in Bolivia.
Selangor River is the natural fishing boat parking area, whereby the fishing boat jetty is located at Pasir Penambang, the main fishing village. Kuala Selangor Fishing Village allows visitors to purchase fresh catch seafood or processed seafood products. Many visitors from Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley also come to Kuala Selangor to taste their famous, cheap and fresh seafood served by all varieties of cooking.
