Bukit Mertajam is the district’s capital. How to Get There

By Plane

There are flights to Penang provided by Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Air Asia. From the Bayan Lepas airport, guests may hail a taxi to reach Seberang Jaya.

By Car

People driving from Kuala Lumpur may drive through the North-South Expressway (PLUS) exiting at Butterworth exit before continuing the journey towards Seberang Jaya.

By Train

Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) serves a daily route to Butterworth from Kuala Lumpur. From the Butterworth train station, guests may hail a taxi to reach Seberang Jaya.

Penang Bird Park

Penang Bird Park provides a home for more than 300 species of birds from all over the world, including some rare and exotic ones. It is built on a 5-acre land area with beautifully-landscaped gardens. Apart from free-roaming pelicans, flamingos, swans, storks and ducks, guests may also encounter other variety of wildlife species including deers, reptiles and tortoises.

Mengkuang Dam

Mengkuang Dam is located in the Mengkuang Valley north of Bukit Mertajam near Seberang Jaya. It is the biggest dam in Penang with a reported storage capacity of 23,639 million liters of water. Apart from water tanks, Mengkuang Dam is also a haven for nature lovers enjoying a well-landscaped garden with rubber, penang and pine trees. There are jogging tracks and walking trails for recreational activities. Mengkuang Dam is also one of the venues for the annual Penang International Dragon Boat Festival.

St Anne’s Church

St Anne’s Church is a famous Roman Catholic located in Bukit Mertajam near Seberang Jaya. It is one of the parishes in the Diocese of Penang. The church was named after St Anne, mother of the blessed Virgin Mary. Celebrations are held on a grand scale annually in conjunction with the annual St Anne’s Feast at the end of month of July. This attracting thousands of crowds from Malaysia as well as neighbouring countries like Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and Australia to pay homage to their patron saint and followed by two nights of candlelight procession.

Temple of the Ninth Emperor God

This very beautiful temple will be decorated annually for the Nine Emperor Gods also known as Kew Ong Yeah festival celebrated on every 9th month of Chinese Lunar Calendar. The older temple was built in 1971 and the replacement temple was constructed next to it in 2000 by about 50 craftsmen from China. The temple features very nice and neat sculptures and carvings throughout its three grand prayer halls.

Sunway Carnival Mall is located at the town centre of Seberang Jaya.
