Kajang town was founded in 1807. According to the history long ago, there was a Malay and aborigine settlement called Reko. One day, a Malay friend and his aborigine friend were on their way home to Reko on a sampan when suddenly there was a heavy rain. The Malay friend said to his aborigine friend, “Mari kita ber’kajang’.” which means ‘Let’s take a shelter.’ However, the aborigine friend misunderstood his sentence as ‘Let’s fight!’ Thus, the aborigine friend took out his weapon and killed the Malay friend. The location of the incident is now known as Kajang.
