Lower Perak district comes into the picture of towns established along the banks of the Perak River at the south west end. With the existence of Perak River flowing through the district, it is described as a fertile area suitable for agricultural activities. By the early 1980s, the areas was so developed, Teluk Intan town has become the third largest town in Perak. However, during the 1990s, economic activities in Lower Perak district start declining.

Teluk Intan in Lower Perak district is famous for its ‘leaning tower’. It is a beautiful pagoda-shaped structure which stands at 25.5 metres high tilted to one side. Originally it was built as a covered water tank for the town. Nowadays, it serves as a leaning clock tower and it still rings every 15 minutes. The tower also acts as a beacon giving signals to guide ships into Teluk Intan Port.
Another bizarre attraction is the ‘Batu Tenggek’ or Sitting Boulder, which is situated at a junction in Teluk Intan town centre. It was believed that the rock was placed there by a British soldier. Initially, the rock’s original size is the size of a matchbox but has grew bigger over the years. The boulder has now turned into a war memorial commemorating the heroes of World War I. The lines of Laurence Binyon’s famous poem entitled ‘For the Fallen’ are written on the memorial’s plaque.
Local famous dish in Teluk Intan in Lower Perak district is Mastan Ghani Mee and Rojak. The magic lies in the authentic taste of the rojak gravy. Rojak is a mixed of flour batter fritters, fried tofus, boiled eggs, potatoes, sliced cucumbers and turnip served with spicy peanut gravy.
Another talk of the town is the Spicy Herbs Hot Fried Chicken at M Gulam Rasul Restaurant. These fried chickens are usually eaten with white rice and Mamak curry. The oil used to fry the chickens is very hot and fragrant with curry leaves.
