Tucked in Pontian district in Johor, Tanjung Piai is the Southern Most Tip of Mainland Asia. Located 75 kilometres from Johor Bahru city centre, it is about an hour and a half away by car. This place has been gazetted into a National Park due to its diversity in flora and fauna. Comrpises of 526 hecter mangrove areas and 400 mudflats hectare (soft ground and muddy), it is where almost 20 real mangrove species of plants, and 9 related mangrove species reside. This mangrove area is very important in a balance ecosysrem as it serves to protect the land from the fierce onslaught of the wild sea. Manageed by Johor National Park Corportion, the admission fee is RM5 for Malaysian and RM10 for foreign visitor. The area accessible to the public is fairly small and visitors are required to stick to the wooden boardwalks and not try to walk in the swampy mudflats despite its massive total area. The soothing calm of the waves and the endless greenery is an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts. Spending a day at the park is certainly a refreshing experience. Visitors get to embrace the nature while doing various fun activities such as camping, fishing, trekking the obstructive route, bird and fireflies watching and many more. To get here by car from Kuala Lumpur, you take the North-South Expressway (NSE) to south and take the Simpang Rengam exit (Interchange 247) onto the highway headed for Tanjung Piai, via the Benut–Pontian– Kukup highways (Highway 96, Highway 5 and Highway 95). Once near Kukup, follow the signboards that lead to Tanjung Piai. Alternatively, take a taxi from Pontian bus station in the town centre to Tanjung Piai's entry point in Sungai Belukang. Be sure to book your return ride back to the town in advance with the cab driver.
