This place was launched by YA Bhg. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 2005 and since then, Underwater World Langkawi has become one of the island’s best-known attractions and become Malaysia’s largest aquarium. It is located at the southern end of Pantai Cenang and houses more than 200 different species of marine and freshwater fish including harbour seals, rockhopper penguins, sharks, giant rays and the enormous Amazonian arapaima which is the biggest freshwater fish in the world. The complex is divided into three sections which are Tropical Rainforest, Temperate and Sub-Antarctic. Established in August 1995, the objective of the Underwater World is to provide entertainment along with knowledge and education to those who are interested in marine life. It is also aimed to raise awareness on the importance of conserving our precious aquatic life forms. Since the start of its operations on 26 August 1995, it has become one of the “must visit” tourist destinations in Langkawi and has attracted a large number of foreign as well as local tourists.

How to Get There

There are flights such as Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines and Malindo Air available daily from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Langkawi Airport which takes around 2 hours. From the airport, there are many cars available for rental and also taxis. It takes around 20 minutes from Langkawi Airport to Underwater World by using Jalan Kedawang.

Pantai Cenang

Pantai Cenang is a spectacular and busiest beach town on Langkawi Island where people can find cafes and restaurants as well as souvenir shops and duty-free outlets along its picturesque beach strip. Langkawi Skycab

The journey spans 2.2 kilometers, 600 metres above sea level, which you get to see the crystal clear waters of Langkawi and its sandy white beaches in the distance. The panoramic view also offers a breathtaking view beyond the island. You can even spot the massive Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls from a distance and this place is a ‘must visit’ when you come to Langkawi.

Mahsuri's Mausoleum

This place is about the legend of the virtuous maiden which is a folktale about an innocent girl, her tragic death and her dying curse. Peruse ancient artifacts such as olden day weapons, farming tools and currency is available here to better understand the island's history and visitors are also welcomed to freshen up by drawing cool water from the adjacent well which believed to have healing properties. This place features educational museum, Informative historical plaques, Mahsuri's tomb and exotic bird aviary and there are stalls selling traditional snacks along the road inside this mausoleum.
